April is a very important month for Elysee. Dr. Blu-menthal started Elysee in Germany in 1923 then brought the Company to America in April of 1940 and arrived in Madison in April of 1972. We are so very proud of our herit-age! Always an innovator never an imitator. A Com-pany doesn’t last 95 years unless people are getting results. We are also very grateful to all of you for realizing the benefits you get with Elysee.

Dr. Blumenthal and her husband and daughter were on the last ship that left Europe prior to World War II. She opened her first salon at 133 Geary Street which is now part of Neiman Marcus. Her hus-band ran Manufacturing with a plant on Market Street.

According to some infor-mation we’ve found in the files- there was a curfew on German Jews, but the Officials of San Francisco, gave her a special dispen-sation to stay out past curfew so they could go in for facials. The Govern-ment also sent her to work with Military Doctors on Skin Diseases. So we were a doctor’s brand many years before any doctors had Skincare

My Mom opened an Ely-see Facial Salon in the Utility Room of our house with Facial Chair next to our Wringer Washing Ma-chine. Think of how tech-nology has changed in

every area of our lives and yet Dr. Blumenthal intro-duced Royal Jelly in skin care in 1940 and it is now making a big comeback and yet to my knowledge Elysee is still the only Company that uses 350 ml per ounce, the amount necessary to deliver those youthful looking benefits for our skin. Dr. Blumen-thal also introduced the first instant Firming and lifting product- Skin Tight which was used by Betty Grable, and Agnes More-head to name a couple of Celebrities that used Ely-see in the 40’s. Elysee had AHA’s in the 40’s and In-dustry caught up in the 80’s, then when Telomeres were discovered, Elysee discontinued because we don’t want to take a chance on shortening our telomeres- we then intro-duced Face Appeal which dissolves surface dead cells without shortening our telomeres. Money has never been Elysée’s driv-ing force- delivering re-sults at reasonable prices is what motivates and in-spires us.

It's so hard for me to believe that it's already April. The weather has been so up and down that it has seemed more like fall lately than Spring.

This is one of my favorite times of year…the hazy blue sky, clouds drifting in and out; the airy sweetness of flow-ers, rain, fresh-cut grass. However, I think those of us in Wisconsin are won-dering if warmer temps will ever bless us with its presence!

April's featured ingredient of the month is TELLIRICTIN®, an active-rich extract of clove flower rich in gal-late esters, extremely potent antioxi-dants, and effective MMPi's. Tellirictin® is an active developed through the use of a proprietary HEDI™ process, which allows for multifunctional anti-aging benefits.

Skin aging is caused by a number of different factors: exposure to oxidative stress, increased presence of proteolyt-ic enzymes (MMP's) and pigment disor-ders caused by UV exposure among others.

Tellirictin® was tested for its ability to inhibit oxidation of phospholipid lipo-somes that were exposed to UV light. Rates of oxidation were determined by measuring malonaldehyde, one of the major toxic breakdown products of oxidized lipids. It was also tested for its ability to prevent oxidation caused by SO (singlet oxygen), one of the most aggressive reactive oxygen spe-cies and especially damaging to mito-

chondria (the cell's energy source). SO is highly reactive and capable of damaging all classes of biological macromolecules, thereby comprising cell membrane struc-ture, DNA integrity and protein functions. Tellirictin® was also tested for its effect on the rate of oxidation of tyrosinate inhi-bition with a target of skin lightening ben-efits.

Based on clinical study results, Tellir-ictin® has proven multiple biological ef-fects as the following:

1) Efficient Reactive Oxygen Species scavenger.

2) Strong inhibitor of Elastase and of collagen-degrading MMP's

3) Powerful inhibitor of Tyrosinase ac-tivity.

4) Provides efficient protection against oxidative and proteolytic stress.
