SEPTEMBER 2021 VILLAGE OF EVENDALE Dear Neighbors and Friends, After issuing a Notice of Violation for multiple problems associated with the former Homer’s Restaurant, the Village has received a verbal commitment from the present owner to tear it down. A demolition contract was submitted to the Village via the owner’s attorney. We will continue to pursue this matter until the property is brought into full compliance with our property maintenance, building and zoning codes. The owner wanted to put a self-storage unit on the lot, but that’s not permitted under our zoning code. Over the last year, it has been a spot to dump trash, even an old automobile. Hopefully now, the owner will redevelop the site or sell it for an allowed use. I know we have all been warned about leaving our cars sitting outside, unlocked. And, I never do. Except on occasion, I had never thought of it until now. This warning is also applicable at the cemetery where your loved ones are being laid to rest. The police tell me crooks are taking advantage of people leaving their cars unattended and unlocked while at the cemetery. By the way, I did this several weeks ago at my brother-in-law’s funeral. I now know better. Kinetic Vision broke ground on its new building on AeroHub Blvd. It should be done by next summer. This company is really great for our Village. It meets all the goals of what we wanted for the AeroHub development. Hats off for this great company. The pictures below are from our recent groundbreaking ceremony. Not many residents of the Village know where Indian Woods Drive is located. It can only be reached through the City of Reading off Sanborn Drive. The Drive consists of five addresses on a private drive. Only three people actually use the private drive. It is a beautiful setting but the private drive has not been maintained including a public storm water drainage pipe under the drive which the Village is responsible for repairing/replacing which our Service Department is currently working on. One of our residents brought up the fact that Evendale had an automobile race track until 1958. It was at the corner of Glendale-Milford Road and Reading Road (about where Arby’s sits now). It operated for over ten years and was considered one of the fastest tracks in the United States. As I recall, a race car lost a tire and went into the stands killing a spectator. That closed the track. It’s that time of year already - summer is ending and a new school year is beginning! Wishing everyone a safe and happy return to school. Sincerely, Your Mayor

SEPTEMBER 2021 VILLAGE OF EVENDALE
Dear Neighbors and Friends,
After issuing a Notice of Violation for multiple problems associated with the former Homer’s Restaurant,
the Village has received a verbal commitment from the present owner to tear it down. A demolition
contract was submitted to the Village via the owner’s attorney. We will continue to pursue this matter until
the property is brought into full compliance with our property maintenance, building and zoning codes.
The owner wanted to put a self-storage unit on the lot, but that’s not permitted under our zoning code.
Over the last year, it has been a spot to dump trash, even an old automobile. Hopefully now, the owner
will redevelop the site or sell it for an allowed use.
I know we have all been warned about leaving our cars sitting outside, unlocked. And, I never do. Except
on occasion, I had never thought of it until now. This warning is also applicable at the cemetery where
your loved ones are being laid to rest. The police tell me crooks are taking advantage of people leaving
their cars unattended and unlocked while at the cemetery. By the way, I did this several weeks ago at my
brother-in-law’s funeral. I now know better.
Kinetic Vision broke ground on its new building on AeroHub Blvd. It should be done by next summer. This
company is really great for our Village. It meets all the goals of what we wanted for the AeroHub
development. Hats off for this great company. The pictures below are from our recent groundbreaking
ceremony.
Not many residents of the Village know where Indian Woods Drive is located. It can only be reached
through the City of Reading off Sanborn Drive. The Drive consists of five addresses on a private drive.
Only three people actually use the private drive. It is a beautiful setting but the private drive has not been
maintained including a public storm water drainage pipe under the drive which the Village is responsible
for repairing/replacing which our Service Department is currently working on.
One of our residents brought up the fact that Evendale had an automobile race track until 1958. It was
at the corner of Glendale-Milford Road and Reading Road (about where Arby’s sits now). It operated for
over ten years and was considered one of the fastest tracks in the United States. As I recall, a race car
lost a tire and went into the stands killing a spectator. That closed the track.
It’s that time of year already - summer is ending and a new school year is beginning! Wishing everyone a
safe and happy return to school.
Sincerely,
Your Mayor

BUILDING, ZONING, AND CODE
ENFORCEMENT
The third and final reading will be at the
September council meeting.
On September 14, 2021, Village Council is
scheduled to vote on two (2) Ordinances to make
significant changes to the Evendale Zoning Code.
These changes include the following:
Specifically define and regulate Discount
Retail, Thrift Retail, and Pawn Retail
separately from the more general Retail
Sales. The proposed changes would
effectively ban Discount Retail and Pawn
Retail uses in the Village, while limiting the
expansion of existing Thrift Retail uses. No
Discount or Pawn Retail businesses are
currently operating in the Village.
Specifically define and regulate Self-Storage
Warehouse as a separate use. The proposed
changes would effectively ban this use in the
Village, though in practice the use has never
been permitted. No such businesses are
currently operating in the Village.
Allow the use of an automatic powered pool
cover in lieu of a fence and locking gate to
limit unauthorized entry to a residential
swimming pool. The pool cover would be
required to meet ASTM International
standards.
Village Council is interested in hearing your
opinion on these proposed changes. To obtain a
copy of the Ordinances or to register your
comments, please contact the Evendale Building
