VOLLEYBALL The Vikings start a four-match homestand to close the regular season when CSU hosts UIC on Fri-day (Nov. 4) at 7:00 p.m. and Valparaiso on Saturday (Nov. 5) at 4:00 p.m. CSU is 16-7 overall and in second place in the league at 9-3. The Vikings were in action just once last week, falling at Milwaukee, 3-1. Jackie Dabbelt and Kara Koch record 12 kills each, while Jordan Goad handed out 43 assists and Amy Grabiec made 24 digs.

Women’s Soccer Prepares For League Tournament The Cleveland State women’s soccer team takes center stage this week as the Vikings open play in the Horizon League Championship with a first round match against Wright State at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 2) . The Vikings clinched the fourth seed with a 2-1 win at Wright State on Friday to close the regular season, combined with Butler’s loss at Loyola. CSU’s win allowed the Vikings to finish the regular season at 10-6-2, set-ting a program record for most wins in a season. After falling behind 1-0, Taylor Vidovic knotted the match at 1-1 with her team-leading seventh goal of the season and Frederike Dubeau won it with a goal in the 86th minute. A win on Tuesday night would send the Vikings into the semifinals against either top-seeded Milwaukee or No. 2 seeded Detroit. The semifinals and championship will be played at Milwaukee.

MEN’S SOCCER Cleveland State closes the regular season on Fri-day (Nov. 4) with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Detroit. The Vikings are 8-8-1 overall and in second place in the league at 4-2-1 following 2-1 wins over Butler and Canisius last week. After Jordan Hart scored the Vikings first goal against Butler on Wednesday (Oct. 26) night, Aaron Adkins added the game-winner. Two more goals from Adkins on Sunday (Oct. 30) helped CSU knock off Ca-nisius in the non-league finale. Brad Stuver combined for four saves in goal.

CROSS COUNTRY The cross country team finished a program-best fourth place (out of 10 teams) at the Horizon League Championship on Saturday (Oct. 29) in an event the Vikings hosted at Valleeview Farm. Allison Craine paced the Vikings with her second straight 16th place finish at the league championship with a time of 20:03. Kendra Kezur was 31st in 21:00, while Kari Haywood placed 34th in 21:12. CSU is now out of action until the NCAA Region-als on Nov. 12 in Toledo.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings open the exhibition season when CSU hosts John Carroll on Tuesday (Nov. 1) at 7:00 p.m. in Woodling Gym. WRESTLING Cleveland State begins its 2011-12 season when the Vikings compete in the Eastern Michigan Open on Nov. 5. Action will begin at 10:00 a.m. A youthful Viking squad, which includes 13 signees, is highlighted by sophomore 125-pounder Ben Williford who placed fourth at the EWL Cham-pionships last year. Matt Donohoe (wrestling at 157), Corbin Boone (184) and Nick Anthony (197) all placed sixth last season.
