VOLLEYBALL The Vikings closed out the regular season with a pair of victories last weekend over Loyola and Green Bay, and will now travel to Milwaukee, Wis. for the Horizon League Championship. CSU, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, will play its first contest on Saturday (Nov. 19) in the semifinals. The championship match will be held on Sunday (Nov. 20) at 2:00 p.m. EST. CSU ended the regular season with a 20-7 overall record and a 13-3 mark in league play. This is the third time that the Vikings have earned the No. 2 seed in the league tournament during head coach Chuck Voss’ ten-ure, also doing so during the 2007 and 2005 seasons.

Vikings Host Two Games This Week Cleveland State opens its home slate this week with a pair of contests, starting on Tuesday (Nov. 15) at 7:00 p.m. against Rio Grande. The Vikings then host St. Bonaventure on Friday (Nov. 18) at 7:00 p.m. CSU is coming off a season-opening 71-58 win at No. 7 Vanderbilt on Sunday (Nov. 13) in which the Vikings shot .500 (27-54) from the field and held the Commodores to .353 (18-51) shooting. The Vikings also made 15 steals, forcing 21 Vanderbilt turnovers. The win was the highest-ranked team CSU has ever defeated and was the fifth win against a top-25 team for head coach Gary Waters at CSU. The program had just one win against a top-25 team before he arrived. D’Aundray Brown led the Vikings with a career-high 18 points, eight re-bounds and a career-best seven steals.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING The Vikings were busy this weekend as they com-peted on both Friday (Nov. 11) and Saturday (Nov. 12) and finished the weekend 4-0, including a pair of Hori-zon League victories. Alexandra Johansson and Alice Sommerville were a perfect three-for-three on Friday at Youngstown State against the Penguins (140-97) and Duquesne (133.5-91.5) with Sommerville setting a new Beeghly Natatorium record when she turned in a 1:05.76 in the 100 breast. CSU bested Valparaiso (173-56) and St. Bonaventure (141-96) on Saturday at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium thanks to winning 11 of 13 events.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING The Vikings fell behind early but rebounded to defeat Valparaiso (200-37) and St. Bonaventure (144-99) on Saturday (Nov. 12) at the Robert F. Busbey Na-tatorium. A pair of one-two-three finishes in the 50 and 100 free helped the cause as Nathan Grant, Justin Hill, Alex Lewis and Berry Thompson excelled in the sprint events. Justin Kermack touched first in both the 200 IM (1:55.32) and 200 fly (1:52.30) while freshmen Grant (200 free - 1:42.84) and Jon Querciagrossa (500 free - 4:40.49) added wins to clinch the victory for CSU.

MEN’S SOCCER CSU had its season end with a 1-0 setback to Loy-ola in the Horizon League Championship first round on Tuesday (Nov. 8). Junior Aaron Adkins, sophomore Admir Suljevic and senior Manuel Conde were all named to the All-Horizon League first team. Junior Brad Stuver and sophomore Aslinn Rodas were both second team picks, while Mike Derezic was named to the all-newcomer team.

WRESTLING The Vikings went 1-2 at the Wrestle for a Cure Duals in Harrisburg, Pa. on Saturday (Nov. 12). Junior Corey Carlo (165) and senior Josh Palivoda (141) both went 3-0 and sophomore Nick Flannery (133) earned a pair of victories - both via pin - as CSU knocked off The Citadel but fell to Boston University and Old Dominion. Ben Willeford (125), Mike Mencini (149), Corbin Boone (184) and Chris Weber (HWT) each picked up a victory.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings will hit the road for the first time dur-ing the 2011-12 season this week, as CSU travels to New York to face the Fordham Rams on Wednesday (Nov. 16) evening at 7:00 p.m. CSU enters the week with a 1-1 record after split-ting their contests during the first weekend of play. The Vikings defeated Tennessee State, 74-56 in their opening game and then fell to Illinois, 72-42. Des-tinee Blue led the Vikings with 18 points against the Lady Tigers and 11 against the Fighting Illini, while Shalonda Winton moved into the top-20 on the all-time career rebounds list with 476 after posting 16 last weekend.

CROSS COUNTRY The Vikings concluded the 2011 season last Sat-urday (Nov. 12), with a 31st place finish at the Great Lakes Regional.
