SYLLABUS REQUIREMENTS

• Basic Video Project: Video podcast using iMovie– Designed to supplement instruction you deliver or would deliver

face to face– Shoot video, edit in iMovie, put into GarageBand for podcast

• Instructional Video Project with Audio using iMovie and Garage Band– Instructional media on the topic of an instructional strategy of your

own choosing– Video edited in iMovie– Audio elements assembled in GarageBand and brought into iMovie

Page 4: Video Podcast & iMovie Introduction. OVERVIEW Syllabus requirements overview –Look at some examples Video podcast in GarageBand iMovie Introduction Key.

BASIC VIDEO QUASI-EXAMPLE

• Is an example because:– Content/script that was thorough

• Evidence of organization• Conceptualization and planning is evident

– Talking head content about ½ of movie

– Transitions are fine

– Titles

– I can use it to supplement my instruction that I deliver face to face

• Is NOT an example because– Greatly exceeds syllabus length requirements (7:24)– Syllabus calls for large portion as still images; I have video instead– Soundtrack levels between talking head and video clips not consistent

Page 5: Video Podcast & iMovie Introduction. OVERVIEW Syllabus requirements overview –Look at some examples Video podcast in GarageBand iMovie Introduction Key.

BASIC VIDEO QUASI-EXAMPLE

• Intended as comedy– Fails broadly

• I had the two video segments for years– Assessment Police

• Doc student project

– Summer Bunch Band• In my early years here at CCSU

• I wrote the talking head segments as parody of introductions like on Masterpiece theatre

• Invented this idea of educational parody

• My acting chops and reading skills need work

VIDEO PODCAST• Importing a movie or video file

– Media browser, movies tab panel

– Imported file appears in movie track

– Project can contain only 1 video file

– Movie track’s audio is on own track after import “Movie Sound”• Can be independently edited

• Can still add other tracks

– Loops, recordings, instruments

– .m4a files like audio podcasts

• Ducking

• Movie markers

– Chapter and URL

Key Terms• Events

– Events are groups of clips typically associated with how you import/acquire your video– Sort of like playlists in iTunes where multiple songs are imported from one cd

• Project– One video project– So my parody was one project– If I put together another video example it would be a second project

• Clips– Video segments

• Non-destructive– iMovie is non-destructive editing process– You make changes to copies of a clip, not the original imported video

• Integrated– If you were really serious then events could function as a database of clips, you would always have access to all clips

from all projects, all music on computer, all photos…

• Skimming aka scrubbing– Dragging mouse over clip to get sense of data– Like holding down fast forward or rewind button and listening to player chop up bytes
