Repair of a leak on a pressfit connection
• System: Oil Piping (1 ½”) on a Nitrogen Generator
• Requirements: – Oil/Chemical tanker -> no hot works allowed– Quick Repair: Tanker only 24 hours in the port – Nitrogen System out of order -> as short as possible because
needed for loading and unloading– Lack of space due to existing piping and electrical wires
• Products used: Victaulic Couplings Style 77 galva - grade O
Victaulic Piping Solutions:
1. Safety: no hot works– Existing pipe on board the vessel was cut and
rollgrooved by hand. No (fire) hazard.– New piping was cut to length and grooved along the
quay– Mechanical pipe couplings style 77 were used to
connect the piping at location.

Victaulic Piping Solutions:
2. Quick Repair- The Victaulic team arrived August 23rd at 8.45 am
at the dock, boarded the vessel and met the crew at 9.15 am, inspected the work area and started the repair around 10am.
- It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the job.- A pressure test was made together with the crew.
All systems where checked. The installation was working well and piping giving full satisfaction.

3. Little space needed- Clearance of
180mm was sufficient to let the manual roll groover rotate around the existing pipe.
