This one day workshop will provide an understanding of the concepts of Vicarious Trauma (VT), Compassion Fague and Burnout. Parcipants will learn to idenfy risk factors and the warning signs in themselves and colleagues; why and how work in the area of trauma can cause these responses; and ways to prevent and address Vicarious Trauma and Burnout. This workshop is interacve and will include individual and small group reflecon. This workshop is appropriate for anyone who is involved in supporng traumased people from refugee backgrounds. Workshop facilitators: Farah Suleman —Counselling Services Team Coordinator Farah Suleman has over 10 years’ experience working with children and young people’s wellbeing and holds a Masters in Mental Health (Art Therapy). She has a child-centered focus in her work and draws on inter-disciplinary and transcultural collaboraon to support her pracce. Farah is passionate about the role that expressive therapies and creavity can play in restoring mental health and wellbeing; including supporng front-line staff. Farah started work with QPASTT in 2013 and is currently coordinang the Counselling Services Team. Tanya Van Bael— Clinical Supervisor Tanya Van Bael holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Queensland. Tanya has over fiſteen years of experience in complex client work both within Australia and internaonally. She is a specialist in trauma therapy, community development and crisis management, parcularly within the context of working with people from a refugee background and people seeking asylum. Tanya has been working at QPASTT since 2012, inially as a counsellor, and subsequently as a professional supervisor providing supervision to colleagues working in a variety of roles. She is passionate about working holiscally with both clients and supervisees, bringing honesty, compassion and humour even into the darkest of places. Introduction to the Refugee and Settlement Experience – The Impact of Trauma workshop. The content of QPASTT
workshops are based on the experiences of people from refugee backgrounds and the impacts of torture and trau-
ma, therefore it is essential that all participants have a basic understanding prior to attending other QPASTT work-
shops. QPASTT will have an ongoing register of who has completed the introductory online training.
