What is Eurostars?

• First European R&D funding stream focused solely on SMEs.

• Any technology area • Minimum 1 European partner from 1 EU country• Administered by national funding bodies - in UK by

Technology Strategy Board • Deadline 4th April 2013

What does a project look like?

• Bottom up - any technology area

• Duration - maximum 3 years

• Partners - 3 - 4 (2 - 3 EU countries)

• SME’s - universities and large companies can also participate

• Match-funded - up to 50% funded

• Average project size €1.4m (€214k for UK partner)

Eligibility • Lead partner must be an R&D performing SME

• No partner or country can contribute more than 75%

• 50% of the project’s core activity should be carried out by SMEs

• Separate legal entities & trading for more than 12 months

• Additional criteria for micro companies, universities and large companies

• Straightforward application and procedures

• Bottom-up approach - not prescriptive to any particular sector – the right project and level of innovation will be funded

• Short lead-time - 3 months to funding decision

• Minimal reporting and admin - e.g. 1 report every six months

• Success rates - around 1/4 if you are eligible
