Dear Brothers, Sisters and Comrades,

First of all, thank you to all who made the shrimp dinner successful. It was a nice turn out for the Aux-iliary dinner.

September will be a busy month so be sure to keep your calendar handy and be sure to check Face-book for more up to date information. A few things to remember…

We will have our next meeting on Monday, 20th of September @ 7pm. Be sure to come out and hear about what we are planning out for the fall season and up-coming holidays.

We will have our dinner on Friday, September 3rd starting at 6:30. We will be serving spaghetti with a both meat and meatless sauces. Take the night off from cooking and enjoy a meal with us! We can always use help in the kitchen as well, as it's been said,"Many hands make light work.”

There will be a 9/11 ceremony on Saturday, September 11, 2021 @ 3pm and one for POW/MIA day on Friday, September 17th, 2021 @ 6pm. Help us remember those who have served, making the ultimate sacrifice.

One last reminder, there will be a sign up sheet for those kiddos in our lives for the Children's Halloween party on the afternoon of October 23rd. Be sure to include each child, so we get an accurate head count for the festivities.

Looking forward to seeing all to you at our upcoming scheduled events!

Respectfully, Josie Riffle President of Auxiliary Post 4809

FROM THE POST CHAPLAIN…

Comrades and Sisters,

I am sad to report that we lost three of our Comrades since our last newsletter. Their names are Robert E. Moore, Leo B. Justice and Melonie Meinnert, wife of Dean M. Meinnert.

Please, keep Marti Braunshausen and Isabella (the daughter of James and Kristina Waltz) in prayer. Let’s remember those comrades, sisters and family members who may have tested positive for the corona virus, and those who may be undergoing or recovering from health issues in our daily thoughts and prayers. They continue to require any support and assistance we may be able to pro-vide in their time of adversity.

If you or a family member should become ill, confined at home, admitted to the hospital or if you ex-perience the loss of a loved one, be sure to contact me (Jim Wold) at (757) 532-2993. You can also contact the post home at (757) 463-4343. We believe that one of our most important responsibilities, as VFW members, is to provide any emotional and physical support whenever possible to our fellow comrades, sisters and family members.

Continue to pray for all our active duty service personnel, DOD civilians, first responders, medical members aiding in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic both stateside and overseas. I am espe-cially burdened for those serving in combat theaters of operation and all of the many doctors, nurses and medical personnel, worldwide, assisting and administering those afflicted with the deadly virus.

Remember we should all do our part - Widespread vaccination is the best and surest way to get us back to doing all of the things most important to us.

Volunteering offers many benefits in exchange for the gifts of your time, energy and experience. The giving of ourselves, regardless our culture, creed, religious affiliation or lack thereof, is a remarkable and priceless gift.

With My Utmost Respect, Jim Wold (757) 532-2993 [email protected]

FROM THE AUXILIARY CHAPLAIN…

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Blessings to “you and yours!” We enjoyed our school of instruction for the new auxiliary officers on August 7, 2021.

We send our thoughts and prayers to Marty Braunshauser, Kristina Cornell Waltz, and her daughter Isabella. Marty’s had the first of many surgeries to repair the injury to her foot. Kristina and her daughter Isabella were involved in an automobile accident which has caused several issues for them.

The struggle of life is real. Faith, Family and Friends become our lifeline. Remember, just one phone call or a quick visit can bring a smile and lift spirits more than we know.

Let us remember to pray for all the folks in Afghanistan. Many veterans have served there, many are still there, and many Americans are trying to get home.

We can all find comfort: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let yours hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” John14:27

If you need anything, please contact me at [email protected]. If you are sick, in the hospital or know of anyone who is, please call me at (860)-884-5243.

Look forward to seeing all of you, as we come out to support our Veterans!!

God Bless You and keep you!

FROM THE SEAM SQUIRREL…

Listen up Cooties.

A lousy job to those that helped with last month’s Cootie Safari, burger night and breakfast. Thank you!!!

The Cootie safari was a huge success for us. There was plenty of food, and everyone was raving about how good they thought the food was. They even liked the new coasters.

Plan to attend the Scratch on 7 September. We will be conducting the Nit initiation for our new Nit, Christine. She was voted in and did the obligation but needs initiated. The Post is still working on getting the fence put back in place to take advantage of the extra space when conducting events in the pavilion area. We will be installing a couple horseshoe pits and room for corn-hole games. I would like to get a Luau set up maybe once a year for fun and games.

When doing the meals, remember to bring and wear your mask (if not fully vaccinated) and plan to assist where needed. We need all the help we can get since the summer is here with many of us are going on much needed and well-deserved vacations.

Please verify your food handlers card expiration date!!! Renew BEFORE they expire!

We are still looking for new members to recruit who will participate in all our activities. The meals we do are supposed to be fundraisers for the Pup Tent, so it is important that we support these func-tions. The shopping, the prep work, the cooking, the serving and the clean up all need to be done so we can keep our customers happy and coming back. Continue to support the Post and Auxiliary activities and dinners so keep an eye on the post calen-dar. When attending the activities, wear your Cootie gear to show off our organization and try to re-cruit.

Upcoming events: 7 September Scratch. 21 September House Committee Meeting. 24 September Cootie Burger night. 26 September Cootie Breakfast. I hope to see you all soon. Please stay safe and look out for each other. Please let me know if any-one needs anything!!!

Yours in L.O.T.C.S., Tim Dawley SS1.0 757-813-8054 [email protected]
