Remain standing when Father exchanges the Cope for the required Mass vestments ofchasuble and maniple. Kneel when he returns to the Foot of the Altar to begin the Mass.

The priest crosses himself and says aloud (V.) and the servers respond (R.)

At a High (Sung) Mass, please stand as the Celebrant ascends to the altar, saying silently.

Aufer a nobis, quæsumus, Dómine,iniquitátes nostras: ut ad Sancta sanctórumpuris mereámur méntibus introíre. PerChristum Dóminum nostrum. Amen.

Take away from us our iniquities, we beseechThee, O Lord, that we may be worthy to enterwith pure minds into the Holy of Holies.Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Celebrant bows down to kiss the Altar-stone containing the Relics:

Orámus te, Dómine, per mérita Sanctórumtuórum, quórum relíquiæ hic sunt, etómnium Sanctórum: ut indúlgere dignérisómnia peccáta mea. Amen.

We beseech Thee, O Lord, by the merits ofThy Saints whose relics lie here, and of allthe Saints, deign in Thy mercy to pardonme all my sins. Amen.

The master of ceremonies offers a vessal containing incense to the Celebrant, saying:

Benedícite. Pater reverénde. Reverend Father, pray bless this incense.

He blesses the incense, then he incenses the Crucifix, Relics, and Altar.

Ab illo beneadicáris in cuius honórecremáberis.

Thou art blessed a by Him, in whose honor,thou shalt burn.

The Celebrant goes to the Epistle side where he is incensed by the Master of Ceremonies. He turns toward the AltarMissal, makes the sign of the cross and recites both the Introit and the Kýrie, which the Schola had begun singing during

the “Prayers at the Foot of the Altar”.

INCENSING OF THE OFFERINGS AT HIGH MASSHe puts three spoonsfull of incense into the Thurible and blesses it:

May the Lord, by the intercession of blessedMichael the Archangel, who stands at the rightside of the altar of incense, and of all His elect,bleass this incense and receive it as a fragranceof sweetness: through Christ our Lord. Amen.

He takes the Thurible from the Master of Ceremonies, and censes the bread and wine:

May this incense, which Thou has blessed, OLord, ascend to Thee, and may Thy mercydescend upon us.

Then the Celebrant incenses the altar, saying Psalm 140. 2-4:

The Celebrant places the Paten under the Host, uncovers the Chalice, makes a genuflection, thentaking the Host, he breaks It in the middle over the Chalice:

Lord, I am not worthy that Thou should enterunder my roof, but only say the word, andmy soul shall be healed. (x3)

.He receives the Sacred Host. After a brief meditation, the celebrant collects any fragments of the Host

that may be on the corporal and brushes them into the Chalice with his fingers, saying:

Quid retríbuam Dómino pro ómnibus quæretríbuit mihi? Cálicem salutáris accípiam, etnomen Dómini invocábo. Laudans invocáboDóminum, et inimícis meis salvus ero.

What shall I render to the Lord for all He hasrendered unto me? I will take the Chalice ofSalvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.Praising, I will call upon the Lord and I shall besaved from my enemies.

Crossing himself with the Chalice he says:

He receives the Precious Blood.

COMMUNION OF THE FAITHFULThe reception of Holy Communion is a sign that the communicant accepts and believes all that

the Roman Catholic Church holds and teaches.

GENERAL NORMS FOR RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNIONThose who receive should:

1) be baptized Catholics in full communion and in good standing with the Church 2) be in a state of Sanctifying Grace (i.e., not conscious of a mortal sin)

3) have fasted at least one hour before receiving the Sacrament.In the ancient Latin rite celebrated according to the liturgical books of 1962,

the Communicant receives the Sacred Host on the tongue while, if you are able, kneeling.The “Amen” is said by the priest.

With the Ciborium, and turning at the middle of the altar to those who will receive Communion, says:

Ecce Agnus Dei, ecce qui tollit peccatamundi.

Behold the lamb of God, behold Him Whotakes away the sins of the world.

Then the Celebrant says, and the bell rings, three times:

Dómine, non sum dignus, ut intres subtectum meum, sed tantum dic verbo, etsanabitur ánima mea.

Lord. I am not worthy that Thou should enterunder my roof, but say only the word, andme soul will be heard.

The formula used by the Priest distributing Holy Communion is:

Corapus Dómini nostri Iesu Christicustódiat ánimam tuam in vitam ætérnam.

After Communion the Priest returns to the altar and reposes any remaining Hosts in the Tabernacle,after which the Consecration Candle is removed from the altar. He then continues with the ablutions,

during which he purifies the Paten, Ciborium, and Chalice and of course, his hands.. This action is areminder of the Catholic Church’s Jewish origins. specifically the ritual cleansing in and of the Temple.

THE ABLUTIONS

Please sit.

A server pours wine into the Chalice; the Celebrant drinks it and says:

Quod ore súmpsimus, Dómine, pura mentecapiámus: et de múnere temporáli fiat nobisremédium sempitérnum.

Grant, O Lord, that what we have taken withour mouth we may receive with a pure mind;and that from a temporal gift it may becomefor us an eternal remedy.

Having purified the Chalice by drinking the wine which has mixed with any traces of thePrecious Blood, the Celebrant now moves to the Epistle side where the Servers pour water and

wine over his fingers, into the Chalice, to purify them. The Celebrant says:

Corpus tuum, Dómine, quod sumpsi, etSánguis, quem potávi, adhæreat viscéribusmeis: et præsta; ut in me non remáneatscélerum mácula, quem pura et sancta

May thy Body, O Lord, which I have received,and Thy Blood which I have drunk, cleave tomy very soul; and grant that no stain of sin mayremain in me, whom Thy pure and Holy

He drinks the wine and water, dries the inside of the chalice with the purificator, lays it across the chalice, and places

upon it the paten and pall. He veils the chalice, leaves it in the middle of the altar, and goes to the Epistle side.

THE COMMUNION PRAYER

Hoc corpus, quod pro vobis tradétur: hiccalix novi testaménti est in meo sánguine,

dicit Dóminus: hoc fácite, quotiescúmquesúmitis, in meam commemoratiónem.

This is My Body which shall be delivered foryou: this chalice is the new Testament in My

Blood, saith the Lord: do this, as often as youreceive it, in commemoration of Me.

THE POSTCOMMUNION PRAYERHe goes to the middle of the altar, and turning to the people chants:

If a High (Sung) Mass: Please stand; otherwise: remain seated.
