Why does God love us so much? And

why are we able to love others? The answer to these questions is found in the meaning of today's feast. Trinity Sunday celebrates not so much an idea

of three-in-one as the relationship of the Persons of the Trinity with each

other and with us. The idea is that the Father expressed

himself as the Word. Since it was a perfect expression, the Word is his Son

and equal to the Father. The love of Father and Son is expressed as the Holy

Spirit. Being a perfect love, it too is equal to Father and Son. So even the

idea of the Trinity is based on love. But God's love was so great, God went even further. God created us to be loved by

God. In the second reading Paul blesses the Corinthians with the "love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit." The book of Genesis (3:18) says that it was not good for man to be alone. So God

created woman, and through man and woman all humanity, to be able to love each other. Though human love is not

perfect, the love of man and woman can produce another person, a child. The

three Persons of the Trinity share one life in God. But through baptism, we

also share in God's life. Just as parents love to see how their children look like them, so God loves to see the divine in

us. The irst reading reminds us of God's

closeness to humanity. Moses can speak to God and God responds by granting

his request. The Gospel tells how much God loves the world, that God's own Son

was sent to die for us. But we some-times forget that God's love comes irst. We think that the more loving we are,

the more God will love us. But love comes from God (1 John 4:7-11), so

when we love someone it doesn't make God love us more; we love because God loves us irst. Our decision to love is a response to God's love, and our ability

to love is itself a gift from God. The meaning of life, the universe, and every-thing is Love, the love of the Trinity for

each other and for us. The question now is, how well do we use that gift of God's

love by loving each other?

BlessingofGraduates

Before you were ever formed, God knew you. While in your mother’s womb, God named you. At your

birth, God’s breath illed you with life. Today we celebrate what you have become at this

moment in time. And so we pray, God of our beginnings, We thank you for the gift of these

graduates; their excitement, their awesome wonder and curiosity, their open speech and encouraging

words. Their contributions have blessed and challenged us

and we have become a richer and more diverse community because of them. As they step forward into the world that awaits, comfort their fears with

the full knowledge of your divine presence. Strengthen their resolve to walk in the footsteps of Jesus as modern day disciples in a world that needs

Him. Guide their feet as they walk through life, protecting them from the pitfalls of darkness while

they help lead future generations into the promise of your light. We ask this blessing upon each of them, In

the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. AMEN

AmessageoftheGraduatingClassof2020

Earlier this year I walked the halls of my high school for the last time, I went to my last college lecture.

I saw some of my classmates and teachers for the very last time and I didn’t even know it.

I had some many expectations of what was going to come: senior breakfast, prom, the feeling when you inish your last exam.

Walking across the stage: all eyes on me! Good luck hugs and inal waves good-bye.

It was supposed to be my time.

A celebration of hard journeys and sweet victo-ries. Proof that I didn’t quit. But in the blink of an eye, everything changed. And despite celebrations lost, victories not received, honors not given, I’m tak-ing something with me. Not something taught in class, but something taught in life: I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.

But it’s not just about me, there are still some people I’d like to thank because no one crosses the inish line alone. I want to thank my parents for believing in me, no matter what, and reminding me every day that I can do anything that I set my mind to; for pray-ing for me everyday and pushing me.

I want to thank my coach, for convincing me that I can do anything.

I want to thank my professors for helping prepare me for God’s plan for my life, for helping me stay con-ident and stand strong even when I thought I could-

n’t.

I want to thank all of my teachers for going above and beyond and help me succeed, for showing me how to embrace creative thinking, hopeful living. I would like to thank my small group leaders, you pointed me toward God, that I would stand in His strength.

I’ll step out with grace over grief, with courage over fear. I will love God. I will love others. And I will make my mark in this world.

I am a Graduate.

GRACEANDETERNALLIFE Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven’t we all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked people?

Indeed, haven’t we all gotten a little stiff-necked ourselves at times?

Complaining . . . impatient . . . quick to anger. How lucky for Moses—how lucky for all of us—that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accordingly, Moses does

what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God’s forgiveness and grace.

Encouraging us to live together in peace—and in God’s favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace,

joyfully invoking Christ’s grace on us along with God’s love and the Holy Spirit’s. “Rejoice,” he says. And when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us the gladdest words of

all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus.
