All machine components are of sturdy and v ibrat ion resistant design

As the work spindle carry ing the workpiecetraverses in the main axes X, Y and Z - andnot the tool - it is possible to use very sturdytool ing systems that can be opt imised tosuit the relevant machining requirements.

The tool ing systems form an integral partof the machine base. This offers h igh stat ic and dynamic r ig id i ty.

Ideal chip f low condit ions

The overhead inverted work spindle, withthe workpiece posi t ioned over the cutt ingtools , offers ideal chip f low condit ions.

Three main funct ions carr ied out on a minimum footpr int

Pick-up position:automatic loading and unloading ofworkpiece

Machining position:turning, drilling, milling, grinding, …

Gauging position:The workpiece is measured and thenecessary offsets executed

The aim is workpiece qual i ty

The overhead s l ide unit that carr ies outthe X-axis t raverse movements – also thatof the Y-axis on the 3D vers ion – carr iesthe qui l l with the integral work spindle.

The Z-axis qui l l uni t t raverses in p lay f reeoi l f i l led pockets of the f r ict ionless, no-wear hydrostat ic guideway. The thin oi l

f i lm provides the best possible dampingeffect , a condit ion for outstanding surfacef in ish and extended tool l i fe , even dur inginterrupted cuts .

Absolute posi t ion feedback systems ensureconstant ly maintained accuracy and savethe need for machine referencing.

The basis of the VSC ser ies, f rom thesmal lest to the largest machine, is a verysturdy machine base of h igh-qual i ty polymer cast granite MINERALIT ®.

The closed-loop design with its extremely sturdy U-shaped machine base are preconditions for a short, symmetrical, closed-loop distribution of forces and, consequently, for high static and dynamic rigidity.

Constant temperature: a precondit ion for constant quality

The spindle motor, the work spindle andqui l l , the turret , the electr ical cabinet andthe machine base are al l f lu id-cooled.

A twin-c i rcui t cool ing system keeps themachine temperature within t ight l imits of the ambient temperature.

Even where such difficult jobs are concerned, the VSC for multi-functional use can be relied on to serve theuser faithfully: soft and hard machining, interrupted cuts, turning, drilling and robust milling

Fast , precise workpiece gauging, achieved without detours

Gauging is an integral part ofthe VSC design pr inciple.

On i ts way f rom the machiningto the unloading posi t ion theworkpiece is conveyed to thestat ic measur ing probe or p luggauge outs ide the machiningarea, whereby the gaugingresults are not adversely affected by chip or d i r t part ic les.

Gauging takes place with the part st i l l inthe machining set-up. High-precis ion components are conveyed back into the machining area after gauging, wherethey – and al l fo l lowing workpieces – aremachined to s ize, taking account of anypossible tool compensat ion.

EMAG disc-type turret

The EMAG disc-type turret isf lu id-cooled, thus increasingprocess integr i ty.

I t is a very sturdy, rapid-indexing tool ing system.Every turret stat ion accepts stat ionary turning tools orl ive dr i l l ing and mi l l ingtools with shank diametersof 40 or 50 mm, dependingon machine s ize.

Outstandingly safe and maintenance f r iendly

The large f ront window offers completesafety, with a c lear v iew of the machiningarea and the overhead s l ide unit .

For v isual checks and c leaning, serv ice and maintenance work al l supply systems(hydraul ics , f lu id cool ing system, cutt ingoi l supply c i rcui ts , central lubr icat ionsystem) are in c lear v iew and easy toaccess.

On removal of the s ide panels theoverhead s l ide unit and i ts integral components can also be easi ly accessed.

The design of the VSC ser ies al lows for fast ,space saving, technical ly s imple ( thereforesafe and cost-effect ive) workpiece changeoverand t ransport .

Whether large workpieces are to be t ranspor-ted, l ike th is gear on a VSC 500, or two smal lones s imultaneously, as on a VSC 160 TWIN;whether two machines are l inked up to form asmal l manufactur ing system, or a number ofmachines to create a complete product ionl ine: the VSC concept offers the r ight solut ion.

The twin-gripper collects a workpiece from each of the two rollerconveyors and deposits them on the shuttle conveyor

The workpieces are conveyed to the pick-up station and clampedby the spindle chuck

Flexible workpiece handl ing reduces footpr int and costs

Whether the workpiece is loaded/unloadedfrom the left or the r ight the workpiecef low, and therefore the posi t ion of themachines in the product ion l ine, can befreely chosen. Advantage:Both f loor space requirements and costsfor inter l ink ing are reduced considerably.
