Ah..the changing of the seasons; fall slowly going out and winter falling upon us. This winter seems to be off to a slow start as far as snow falling, but I’m sure we are all relieved. As always the Hall is a busy place with Judo and the Karate club using it at least three to four days a week, our Japanese School meeting once a week, the Kumon math and reading center operating twice a week and Chidori-Kai dancers meeting once a week. We still have the occasional rental usually once a month. The Buddhist Temple has also being meeting regularly with service at least once a month and Dharma school as regular as possible. All these groups collectively help our culture thrive and give us a small voice in our community. We truly our very lucky to have the facility we have and to see it being used as much as it is. I’d like to commend and thank the women of the Fujinkai again for the huge effort they put forth to run the Fall Bazaar with the strawberry tea, the chow mein (which usually sells out in about 10 minutes), the baked goods, and the fresh produce. This really has become a tradition of the Japanese community. I think of years ago when I was growing up, going to the bazaar and being all excited to try the fish pond and just basically being there having fun with the other kids (and probably annoying my parents ) but just having a really great afternoon. I would just like to say thank you from a voice in the community to all of the women (and some men) who take the time to put together such a great event year after year. Ah..the changing of the seasons;
fall slowly going out and winter
falling upon us. This winter seems to
be off to a slow start as far as snow
falling, but I’m sure we are all

The 2012 Executive will remain the
same: Janie Crockett – Secretary,
Mae Yakura – Treasurer and
Agnes Sakakibara – Director.
Christmas is only a few weeks

to wish each of you and your

and nothing but Best Wishes for
2013.
Fujinkai 2012 Post Bazaar and AGM
The Fujinkai held their post bazaar
and AGM on Saturday, November
3rd
with 14 ladies present.
The 2012 Annual Bazaar was once
again a great success, with 400
plates of chow mein sold out within
20 minutes. Thanks to everyone
who came out to help – it makes
such a difference when we have a
number of helpers. $4,000.00 will
be forward to the Vernon Japanese
Cultural Society for the contingency
fund to operate the hall. The 2013
Bazaar will be held on October
19th.
After some discussion regarding
whether to hold Haru Matsuri next
year, the majority voted to not hold
it.
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE (cont.)
Quick rant: come and get INVOLVED! Our next AGM is
fast approaching and WE NEED YOU (sounds like I’m in
the military somewhere). But kidding aside, the VJCS is
always looking for new people to help and keep us
sorta organized - come on out.
As it seems like a festive time, the Vernon Japanese
Cultural Society would like to invite all to our annual
Christmas party. This is usually the biggest event of the
year and we look forward to seeing you all come out for
some good food and if you haven’t been too naughty
maybe even a moment with Santa who I understand will
be arriving at one point in the evening. Okay it’s for the
kids.
A special thanks to TJ Macanara, new owner of Eddies
Blacktop, for finishing the long awaited asphalt repairs.
Our parking lot needed some huge attention and it was
very important to get the repair done. Thanks TJ and
the boys at Eddies.
In closing I would just like to say Happy Holidays to al. If
you can find the time, spend some of it with your loved
ones, create some memories. Kids and even adults
remember fond times and memories a lot more then we
