ELIGIBILITY FOR AWARD OF THE VCE

The VCE is awarded on the basis of satisfactory completion of units according to VCE program requirements.

The minimum requirement is satisfactory completion of 16 units, which must include:• three units from the English group, including a unit 3–4 sequence• at least three sequences of unit 3–4 studies other than English, which may include any number of English sequences once the English requirement has been met.

GATThe General Achievement Test is a test of general knowledge and skills in:• written communication• mathematics, science and technology• humanities, the arts and social sciences.

No special study is required for the GAT.

The VCAA will use students’ GAT scores as a basis for:• contributing to statistical moderation of school-based

assessment results• checking the accuracy of external assessment marking• calculating the Derived Examination Scores.

STUDY SCORESA study score indicates how a student performed in relation to all others who took the study. It is calculated using the student’s moderated School-based Assessment scores, the Externally-assessed Task and the examination scores for each study. maximum study score is 50.

For studies with large enrolments (1,000 or more):• 2% of students will get a score on or above 45• 9% of students will get a score on or above 40• 26% of students will get a score on or above 35• 53% of students will get a score on or above 30• 78% of students will get a score on or above 25• 93% of students will get a score on or above 20.

VCAA SPECIAL PROVISIONSStudents may be eligible for Special Provision if, at any time, they are adversely affected in a significant way by:

• an acute or chronic illness (physical or psychological)• factors relating to personal circumstance• an impairment or disability, including learning disorders.

Students who are eligible for Special Provision are not exempt from meeting the requirements for Satisfactory Completion of the VCE, or from being assessed against the outcomes for a study.

The VCE Coordinator is the first point of contact regarding Special Provision.

ABSENCE ON ASSESSMENT DAYS

AUTHENTICATION

• Students must ensure that all unacknowledged work submitted for assessment is genuinely their own.

• Teachers may consider it appropriate to ask students to demonstrate their understanding of the task at, or about the time of, submission of the work. If any part or all of the work cannot be authenticated, the matter must be dealt with as a breach of rules.

attend the practice exams in advance of any other commitments.
