Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)

It is a system provides storage, retrieval, management, distribution and presentation of medical images

A PACS has four major components: • Imaging systems, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and

computed axial tomography (CAT scan) equipment. (we call them modalities)

• A secure network for distribution and exchange of patient information.

• Workstations or mobile devices for viewing, processing and interpreting images.

• Archives for storage and retrieval of images and related documentation and reports.

Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS)

• Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) have been defined broadly as any computer programme which helps health professionals make clinical decisions (Shortliffe, 1990).

• This is including information resources software.

Real-time locating systems (RTLS)

RFID – Radio Frequency IDRFID readers can detect and RFID label from a distance and without human action. • Assets can be tracked e.g. Surgical Instruments• Blood samples traking• New born tracking
