We invite you to take a few moments to review the information on the following design option boards and submit comments. How are uni-directional and bi-directional protected bike lanes different? Both directions of cycling are side-by-side in a single wide bike lane. Benefits - Requires less roadway width since people biking can use the entire bikeway to pass one another. Thus, there is room for more separation between vehicles and bikes. Challenges - Turning movements through intersections are more complex, which can confuse road users and result in intersections that are harder to navigate safely. People biking travel in one direction on either side of the street. Benefits - Direction of travel by bike is more consistent with adjacent vehicle lanes, making turning movements simpler and more intuitive. Challenges - Requires additional roadway width to allow space for people biking to pass one another.
