What is Vapour Absorption Cooling?

• Vapour Absorption Technology is an alternative cooling technology that saves money and reduces the environmental impact of your cooling solutions.

• Unlike conventional electricity driven Compression Chillers, Vapour Absorption Machines are driven by low cost / waste heat sources like Steam, hot water, natural gas, fuel oils, agro waste and other similar fuels.

• Since low cost / waste heat is the main driver, operating cost of VAMs is minimal with very attractive payback periods, leading to wide industry popularity

Why Vapour Absorption Cooling?

Ø Alternative and renewable fuels cannot be utilized

Ø Power Cost is rising steadily

Ø Low cost / waste energy needs to be utilized to reduce operating costs

Ø There is a need for CFC free technology

Ø Power availability is becoming a big problem

ITS TIME TO SHIFT TO AN ALTERNATECOOLING TECHNOLOGY

How Absorption Chillers work?

Boiling point of the water is a function of pressure. At atmospheric pressure water boils at 100 deg. C. When maintained at high vacuum, water will boil and subcoolitself. The boiling point of the water at 6 mmHg (abs) is 3.7 deg. C.

How Absorption Chillers work?

Lithium Bromide (LiBr) has the property to absorb water (Refrigerant) due to its chemical affinity, directly proportional to concentration & inversely proportional to its temperature.

Page 17: vam ppt

World Leaders in Vapour Absorption Technology

How Absorption Chillers work?

Diluted LiBr loses its capacity to absorb water vapour. Thus needs to be reconcentratedusing a Heat Source. Heating may be Steam / Flue gases / Hot water /f uel firing.

Page 18: vam ppt

World Leaders in Vapour Absorption Technology

How Absorption Chillers work?

The heating causes the solution to release the absorbed refrigerant in the form of vapour. This vapour is cooled in a separate chamber to become liquid Refrigerant.
