Mobile users “pull” or request information by sending an SMS from their mobile phones to a service number linked to the service of the content provider.

Typical service examples are dedicated requests, voting or quiz applications. The consumer can register his interest for a catalogue e.g. Asian paints – text ‘PAINT’ to 8888.

The service is initiated by a Push SMS from the application to the mobile user prompting the user to reply via SMS.

Typical service examples are inviting the consumer to participate in an interactive event. A marketing campaign inviting the consumer in a voting exercise with an offer to win a free holiday to Singapore.

A mobile user can send a SMS service request - SMS MO - from his handset to a special service number. The service number is directly associated with a particular mobile application, which is built by combining Pull and Push services. ITC Wills lifestyle loyalty card members can send a text to a predefined number and get details of their loyalty points.
