AVM Cricket Academy as a mark of respect toM.K.Iqbal introduced
a Rolling Trophy on his name as he toiledhard to develop Childrens
Cricket in our neighbourhood forthe past 15 years.
Mr. AVM K. Shanmugam supported him quite ably toachieve his task
of tapping the untapped potential in our area.So far AVM Cricket
Academy and its coaches produced than3000 young cricketers for the
past 15 years with the support ofAvichi School and its
Correspondent.
Teams from Ananthpur District, Mysore City andThiruvallur
District took part in the tournament which isconducted recently in
the Avichi School grounds. TournamentSecretaries Mr.Ajay and
Mr.Sabari were applauded forefficiently conducting the tournament
along with their coaches.
Thiruvallur District and Kedar Cricket Academy clashedin the
finals and former won the tournament creditably.
An eye problem can besuspected in a child, if thechild squeezes
or rubs his/hereyes often, bump into things, have problems with
eye-handco-ordination such ascatching a ball, sits closer tothe
television or brings pagesof a note too close to read/write, has
difficulty concentrating, complains of headaches andif the child is
on long term medications, such as steroids. Theseshould trigger an
alarm for an eye examination.
For those kids with refractive errors, selecting the
righteyewear is essential for better fit, comfort, protection,
functionand fashion. Children are not merely small adults. Their
facialfeatures are quite different from an adult. For instance,
theircrest height is smaller while their frontal and splay angles
arelarger. Hence, spectacle frames for children must be
selectedconsidering the following factors and not just based on
aesthetics.
1. The frame must provide a correct fit, anatomically
2. It should cover the eye adequately and place the lens
inproper position
3. It should be stable, rigid and strong
4. It should not inhibit the natural development of
nasalstructure (the nose)
Unfortunately, many paediatric frames are just
scaled-downversions of adult frames and not age nor
anatomicallyappropriate. A regular bridge plastic frame with a
negativeprojection is suitable for underdeveloped nasal structure
as ininfants and toddler while a keyhole bridge is useful for
olderchildren. Metal frames with plastic bridges and curled
sidesmay also be selected for young children.
Spectacle lens for kids must have a high impact
resistance, safety being a concern. Lens materials such as
Polycarbonate,Trivex and MR 8 are suitable, owing to its high
impact resistance,UV protection and light weight.
Choosing the right frame and lens is just not enough! It isalso
important to make proper on-eye measurements to ensuremaximum
visual benefit and to minimise unwanted prismaticeffect which may
lead to eye strain and fatigue.
An Optometrist can guide you in making the right choicefor your
kid. After all, every kid deserves the best!
