Service Bulletin for Deere Max Emerge plantersbuilt between 1977 and 2005
John Deere used several fabricated planter arms (the support structure).Earlier model John Deere Max Emerge planters use nearly identical V shotkits but the V Shot Stainless Steel Tube weldments supplied in your V shotkits are different, due to the different fabricated center bodies.
Per the attached Service bulletin, there are THREE known Max Emergewelded planter center arms based roughly on the year and model of theplanter:
7000—7100 built from 1977 through 1984o AP 001785V SHOT 7100 kit, TUBE is AP 001785VS W
7000—7100 build from 1984 through 1986 (with some overlap years)o AP 1785V SHOT 7184 kit, TUBE is AP 001785VS WO
7200 and newer built through about 2005 when the XP came outo AP 1785V SHOT kit, TUBE is AP 001985XPVS W—uses the same
exact tube weldment as late model XP, XPRO and ME5 planters
We will swap out tubes for no charge if you run into one of these olderplanters. We suggest that you order a few of each of the older style tubeweldments to keep in stock.See attached bulletin, which is part of your V shot sales/service packet.

Remove seed tube and shoe
Cut out both supplied drill templates.
Before drilling, determine the trailing disc side of your center-body. If the trailing disc is on the left hand side, use the designated LH drill template. If the trailing disc is on right hand side, use the designated RH drill template.
Remove both gauge wheels and planter opener discs
Align the notch on the drill template with the trailing side disc lip, tape in place if desired and make a mark next to the arrow on the template. The inside edge of the template and the arrow on the template marks the drilling location.Using the supplied 9/32” drill bit, rst drill straight into the casting lip to start the hole, then angle the bit around 5 degrees away from the center of the frame. Notice the rib on the back side of the lip. You want to aim your drill bit away from the rib as not to drill through it. Also, try to exit your drill out away from the center part of the center-body. ***See photos to the rightNow that you have a 9/32” hole, use a 3/8” drill bit or countersink bit to get rid of the sharp edge on the hole. This will protect the 1/4” plastic tubing from any sharp corners.
Pull 1/4" plastic tubing tight against the center body front face and attach one piece or 3M aluminum tape to secure tubing. Allow tubing to be loose be-tween the 3M aluminum tape and zip-tie for movement while planting.
The “mate” to the 1/4” quick cap supplied with the V-SHOT kit is a QJ98592-1/4 (2lb check valve), and is available through any TeeJet dealer
Reinstall shoe, seed tube, opener discs, and gauge wheels
Route the 1/4” plastic tubing through the V-SHOT casting and through the hole drilled earlier. Secure the plastic tubing with a supplied zip-tie through the slot in the casting nose so that 1/8”-1/4” of tubing is sticking out the back of casting.
Reinstall the SHOE and our AP-009885VS casting on the center body with the hardware removed earlier.

To select a V‐Shot kit for your planter, please know your planter Brand and Model, and use the following
selection chart; each of the bullet points below is a separate kit:

Deere Max Emerge 7200, 7300 and later (up to introduction of XP in 2005) Kit # AP‐1785V‐SHOT DO NOT ASSUME THAT ALL OLDER DEERE MAX EMERGE PLANTERS ARE THE SAME. We have included an identification brochure in this packet to positively identify the V‐SHOT kit needed for each planter. Old Deere planters could also have aftermarket planter shanks and even a mixture of model year shanks furnished NEW with the planter. Please use photos and comparisons to select the correct V‐Shot kit. The ONLY difference between the 3 Deere Kits listed above is the Stainless Steel plastic tube holder weldment, and Acra‐Plant will swap out correct tube weldments for incorrect tubes if a mistake is made in selection.

Early Deere planters, Kinze 3000-series AP-1885V-SHOT and CaseIH 800-1200-series Early Riser planters require the drilling of one hole into each planter shank (the center body). The hole is drilled in an area of very low stress and will not affect form/fit/function/durability of your OEM planter. The hole required for the early Deere is for convenience of routing the plastic tubing. The hole required for Kinze 3000-series is for a zip tie. Any size drill from 3/16” to 5/16” will work for that purpose. The hole required for the CaseIH kit is 0.281” (9/32” dia) in size and Acra-Plant includes the proper drill and template with each kit. Installation instructions are included with each kit. If you are not comfortable drilling this single hole, you cannot use our V-SHOT with your planter. WARNINGS:
