Familiar as Eastern Banking Corporation Ltd.

Converted to the name of Uttara Bank Limited.

Now it has 213 branches

Listed in the Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd. and Chittagong Stock Exchange Ltd.

History of ICT Division

The ICT division started its journey since 1998.

At first stage its name was MIS Dept.

Name changed into MIS & ICT Division when it was fully computerized and create network to the branch offices for faster communication

From 2009, ICT Division took all responsibility regarding IT.

There are four department under ICT division, they are-

1. MIS Dept.

2. Development & Support Dept.

3. Card Dept.

4. CBS(Core Banking Solution) Dept.

Functions of ICT Division

Carry out user requirement analysis. Design and develop database applications. Supervise banking functions. Generate Reports Providing IT support Carry out preventive and curative maintenance tasks. Organize in-house ICT training programs. upgrading the Bank’s website.

Responsibility of Development and Support Dept.

The performance of development and support department can be categorized in three sub departments; such are:

1.Support department: provides online or phone call based support.

2.Software support: Develop bank’s own use software update it as needed..

3.Hardware support: provide hardware related support

Network Planning & Designing of Uttara Bank

Network planning and designing is a complex process that involves topological network design, network-synthesis, network-realization etc. for a proposed communication network of an organization. Network planning and designing should satisfy the following requirements—

Equipments used in existing network

1. Juniper SRX-210 Router- This Router is being used as Core router and Branch level router. Some hardware limitation is there

2. D-Link DGS-1024D Switch- This is an unmanaged switch. Have no controls over its performance

3. IBM System x3500 M3 Server- high-performance dual-socket tower server provides generous bandwidth, storage and expanded memory

capacity up to 192 GB. Start with a single Intel Xeon six-core processor. Up to two six-core Intel Xeon X5690 3.46 GHz processors or four-

core Intel Xeon X5687 3.60 GHz processors.

4. IBM System x3500 M4 Server – Deliver the scalability, reliable performance and optimized

efficiency for real business critical applications. Up to two Intel Xeon Processor E5-2600 product family Up to 1600 MHz memory speed.

Disadvantages of the existing network During my internship activities I found some problem in the existing network .They are-

WANs are vulnerable to hackers and viruses.

Lack of Security measures to restrict access to the network.

Bandwidth is less

During over-traffic of data the performance degrades as the network is not designed properly.

Disadvantages of this network

With my Study regarding Implementation of Secured Networking ,I found some draw backs. They are-

Security encryption is not that strong

What is DMZ?

A DMZ is a "demilitarized zone." In networking, a DMZ enforces the firewall that stands between a private Local Area Network and the Internet. This configuration is usually used when a company has a website that it wants the outside world to access, but does not want outsiders to access its private network.

Increasing Efficiency

In order to make the new network plan a much more efficient for mobile and internet banking I come up with some additional plans.

The additional things that I have added are-

1. Mobile Sim Box

2. Federation Service Server

3. Certificate Authorization Server

4. Redundant connectivity by providing Auxiliary Cloud.

Connection with the computer through a data line can be integrated with USB

2.Federation Server

A feature that enables organizations to communicate easily and securely across the public Internet.

As long as both organizations have deployed an Access Edge server, federation can be used to view presence and exchange IMs.

Organizations can also use federation to participate in web conferences.

Certificate servers validate, or certify, keys as part of a public key infrastructure.

The purpose of this process is to create a way for people to communicate safely.

This allows others (relying parties) to rely upon signatures or assertions made by the private key that corresponds to the public key that is certified.

In this model of trust relationships, a CA is a trusted third party that is trusted by both the subject (owner) of the certificate and the party relying upon the certificate. CAs are characteristic of many public key infrastructure (PKI) schemes.

Data is transferred through secured channels using HTTPS protocol.

Data encryption feature.

The deduplication feature enables you to use the network bandwidth efficiently.

Efficient use of data store due to Data Deduplication.

ConclusionBefore introducing Mobile and Internet Banking Uttara Bank should

imply more security measures like adding Federation Server, Certificate Authority Server.

For efficient and faster push and pull messaging service they should add the Mobile Sim box

It’s high time to add Auxiliary Cloud to their Network.

This Internship helped me a lot to learn many things, which would be helpful in my future career.
