HOMETOWN TEAM – Six players on Utah State’s roster are from Utah County, just miles from the BYU campus. Junior forward Wesley Hamblin is from Alpine (Lone Peak HS), fresh-man forward Alecia Robinson is from Orem (Mountain View HS), while junior defender Ra-chelle Williams, sophomore midfielder Jordyn Chung-Hoon and freshmen defenders Olivia Burnett and Imelda Williams attended Timpanogos HS. BYU has just three players from Utah County, but also has two Cache Valley natives on its roster. Sophomore midfielder Madie Siddoway played at Sky View HS, while freshman defender Brynlee Welch attended Mountain Crest HS.
MAKING CONNECTIONS – Outside of the in-state ties, there are other connections be-tween the Utah State and BYU rosters. A native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., USU freshman defender Mealii Enos played high school soccer with BYU freshman goalkeeper Sabrina Macias. Though not the same high school, Utah State junior goalkeeper Sara Cobb and BYU junior midfielder Brittain Dearden Steiner both grew up in New Jersey, coming to Utah from Freehold and Mercer, respectively, which are 30 miles apart.
AGAINST THE RANKS – With BYU’s visit to Logan this weekend, Utah State continues to look for its first-ever win against a ranked team. According to available records, the Aggies are 0-11-2 all-time against teams in the Top 25. Utah State has faced teams ranked as high as No. 2, playing at Oklahoma State in 2011, dropping the match, 3-0. BYU was also ranked second nationally when the Aggies played there in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, falling to the Cougars, 2-1.
A GOOD DAY FOR FIRSTS – In Utah State’s 8-0 win over Sam Houston State last Sunday, two Aggie freshmen recorded their first-career stats. Forward Alecia Robinson scored the first goals of her career with a hat trick, scoring three goals over a six-minute period. Mid-fielder Kanyan Ward had two assists in Sunday’s victory helping on one of Robinson’s goals, as well as a goal from senior midfielder Katie Flynn. Additionally, Flynn and sophomore midfielder Jordyn Chung-Hoon scored their first goals of the season.
HAT TRICK HERO – Freshman forward Alecia Robinson became the eighth player in Utah State history to score three goals in one game in Sunday’s win over Sam Houston State. All-time, Utah State players have now recorded 13 hat tricks. Robinson is the first fresh-man to do so since Brigid Turner had two three-goal performances in her debut in 1999. Turner leads the Aggies with four hat tricks over her four-year career. Senior forward Jessica Brooksby is the only other current player to have accomplished the feat, scoring three times against Idaho State last season, leading the Aggies to a 5-3 win over the Bengals.
BEST IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST – After scoring three goals in USU’s two wins last week-end, junior forward Wesley Hamblin was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. She scored the game-winning golden goal to give the Aggies the victory over Gonzaga, striking in the 92nd minute. In Sunday’s match, she added another pair of goals, scoring on back-to-back attempts in the 18th and 21st minute, respectively. On the week, Hamblin scored three goals, taking five shots with three on goal.
THE HIGH SCORING HALF – The Aggies’ eight goals in Sunday’s win over Sam Houston State are the third-most scored in a Utah State match in program history. Additionally, the seven assists and 23 total points each rank second all-time. The records in all three catego-ries were set in a 10-1 win over Louisiana Tech in 2007, when the Aggies scored 10 goals with eight assists for 28 total points.

Hamblin then scored the game-winner early in overtime to give the Aggies the win. Brooksby assisted on both goals against the Bulldogs. The high-scor-ing first half against SHSU started in the 18th minute on a goal from Robison-Merrill, assisted by senior defender Karlee Camp-bell-Zollinger.
