Insulin in the Intensive Care Unit
Insulina, proviene del latín
Insula: Isla. Llamada así
debido a que se produce
en las células B del
páncreas ubicadas en las
Islotes de Langerhans.
En su forma de
almacenamiento
hexaédrica, 1 Ud esta
compuesta por 6
moléculas de insulina
unidas por puentes de Zn y
Ca. Al ser secretada estas
se separan.
Definición/Definition
Insulin, comes from the
Latin Insula: island. Called
like that because is created
in the pancreatic B cells on
the Langerhans Islets.
The storage from its
hexaedric storage setting,
1 Unit haves 6 insulin
molecules linked by Zn and
Ca bridges separated
before secretion.

• Sliding scale have more mortality and hyperglycemias than other scales
• NPH y Glargina tienen misma efectividad en disminuir glucemia e igual seguridad.• NPH and Glargine have same effect on lowering blood glucose and have same security
• Recommends start with Basal-Bolus scale in Diabetic type 2 inpatients
