USING THE MOON TO

GENERATE ELECTRICITY.

AssumeRamdev is an entrepreneur who is

going to generate electricity using the moon.

Audience are directors of the MTA to whom I want to convince to buy electricity from my company.

Which of the following cities in the

United States has the lowest per

capita power consumption ?

DALLAS

HOUSTON

PHOENIX

NEW YORK CITY

Per capita power consumption.

Average annual residential electricity usage by city, 2000-2005. Measured in Kilowatt hours per customer.

Page 5: Using The Moon To Generate Electricity.

New York city stands 46th in the United States

with respect to per capita power consumption.

The MTA utilizes 28% of the power produced.

In 2008 the MTA used 2150 GWh of

electricity and paid an electricity bill of $ 237

million.

Page 6: Using The Moon To Generate Electricity.

7.2 % of the power is lost in transmission. This

costs the MTA over $16.5 million per annum.

The cost could be cut down if the distance

between the point of generation and

consumption could be reduced.

Use the moon to produce electricity !!!! How ?

Page 7: Using The Moon To Generate Electricity.

Moon is responsible for the high tides and low tides.

Moon and the sun exert a gravitational pull on the earth but the gravitational pull of the moon is greater.

High tide is the inflow of water and low tide is the outflow of water.

The kinetic energy of the water could be used to run turbines to generate electricity.

Page 8: Using The Moon To Generate Electricity.

Install turbines in the Hudson river estuary.

Turbines are similar to windmills but are underwater.

Other options are to use solar and wind energy but they have their own limitations.

Tidal energy is reliable, predictable and cheaper.

Electricity costs. At present the MTA pays over $ 0.11 per KWh of

electricity.

Electricity generated through tidal energy would cost

over $ 0.05 per KWh.

This would save the MTA over $ 15.6 million even if

¼th of the energy requirement was met by electricity

produced through tidal energy.

Advantages.Environment friendly unlike hydro or nuclear or thermal

energy.

The turbines would not make the water turbid or muddy.

The turbines would not obstruct the movement of boats and ferries.

The turbines would not harm the marine life.

Would not interfere with the aesthetics of the landscape.

I hope I have convinced you enough to buy electricity from me.

Thank you.
