1. Introduction The aim of this application note is to describe how to use the OMICRON Relay SettingsImport Filter (Import Filter) with the XRIO Converters of Siemens relays. The document also describe how to export the required setting file from the Siemens setting software (DIGSI). Please note that the XRIO Converter can also be used without the Import Filter.
2. Get the Latest XRIO Converter or the Protection Test Template (PTT) and the Import
Filter. To make sure the Import Filter can work properly, the XRIO Converter or the Protection Test Templates (PTT) should match the firmware version and software version of the relay being tested. Otherwise, the Import Filter may fail to operate. The following table lists the required versions at the time of writing. Please obtain the latest information from the OMICRON website, http://www.omicron.at
Relay Model & Firmware of the Test Object The Converter & The Test Template & Import Filter
Download the PTT according to the relay being tested from the Omicron website http://www.omicron.at, and install those files on the PC before using the Import Filter. A new folder "OMICRON PTL Files" will be created on the desktop after installation. In case the PTT have been already installed, please check the version of the converter or the version test template for required updates. In case the Import Filter executable is not installed on your PC or not the latest version, please download the latest version and install it on your PC before proceeding. The latest version of the import filter at the time of writing is "14.0.0.162", and covered many type of filtering as lists below
3. Using the Import Filter The picture below shows the procedure of how to use the Import Filter
STEP #1 (Export the Setting File):
Two possibilities of file format, *.xrio or *.asc, can be exported from the DIGSI software which can be used with the Import Filter. Please use the table above to select the method how to export the setting file according the relay model and firmware version.
3.1.1 Using the "Standard Filter for XRIO Files" for Import Filtering.
• Open the setting parameters from the DIGSI software (ensure that the setting file used is the same as the setting in the relay)
STEP #2 (Import the setting file to the XRIO Converter): After exporting the relay setting file in either *.xrio or *.asc format, you can now apply the Import Filter and bring in the settings automatically to the XRIO Converter.
Because the XRIO Converter of 7SA6x or 7SA5x supports the Distance and Overcurrent protection function, you can use the stand alone module such as the Distance, Advanced Distance, or Overcurrent Module in the Test Universe software with this converter. You can check the supported function of the converter from the converter’s instruction manual. In this application note, we will use the Advance Distance module as an example.
3.2.1 Distance Relay 7SA6x (using the setting file in "*.xrio" format)
• Open the Advance Distance module.
• Press the icon on the toolbar to open the Test Object.
• Browse the XRIO converter with file name "Siemens 7SA6x V4.6 ENU TU2.11 V1.106.xrio" in the "Siemens" folder and then press ‘Open’. (Remark: Please note that because of the setting file is exported by Digsi4.81 software, we have to use the version of the XRIO Converter which has support for the Digsi4.81 software also. You can check the detail of file name from the above table)
• The Test Object now has a custom section for the 7SA6xx with the "Relay Parameter Section" with entry fields corresponding to the relay settings. In this state you can either fill in the setting with manual entry, or use the Relay Setting Import Filter to bring in the settings via the setting file.
• Press the icon on the toolbar to open the Test Object. (same as above)
• Select from the menu "File" --> "Import" (same as above)
• Press the button "PTL folder" (same as above)
• Browse the XRIO Converter with the file name "Siemens 7SA513 V3.3 ENU TU2.11 V1.000.xrio" in the "Siemens" folder and then press ‘Open’.
• The Test Object now has a custom section for the 7SA6xx with the "Relay Parameter Section" with entry fields corresponding to the relay settings. In this state you can either fill in the setting with manual entry, or use the Relay Setting Import Filter to bring in the settings via the setting file. .
• The default setting of the converter is shown in the picture below.
• The number and detail of the parameters which are imported from the setting file to the converter is shown in the picture below. (Remark: Only settings which are different than those of the existing Test Object will be imported.)
• The new characteristic according to the setting file is now imported and ready for testing.
