Overview

SharePoint 2010/2013 contains a structure called Taxonomy term store.

Taxonomy structure Is a hierarchical collection of centrally managed terms and

allows saving the data in the form of a tree.

One Taxonomy can have multiple hierarchical collections(trees)

The Taxonomy Gives the possibility to set up for a particular field list its values

from the trees in the collection.

The Business Need

In many companies today there is a need to filter lists / libraries associated to a site

page, according to a certain parameter.

In addition there is the requirement that filtering will be performed on the Metadata

field.

The Taxonomy web part Allows us to do the filter easily.

The Solution

The Taxonomy web part is a tree view structure. The web part displays the

Taxonomy Metadata and Contain all possible values to filter by selecting the root of

the tree (hierarchical collections).

The hierarchical collections is taken from the Metadata (collection of trees)

predefined.

Each list /library will be assigned to field whose values are taken from

The SharePoint Metadata.

The solution requires the installation of the web Part and the association of Query

String with parameter called param on the page we want to filter.

The Query String we need because filtering is performed by a predefined

parameter.

Selecting tree node will open the current page and it will filter by field and selected

value.

Adding the Query String

Add Query String Web Part to your desired page like any other web part:

Now, select the Query String (URL) Filter and press on “Add”:

The next step is to set parameter.

Click on Edit Web Part opens the properties window. There under the label Query string

Parameter Name, insert the name of the parameter – param.

Click on Ok.

Now we need to Connect all the library or list to the Query string.

* Click on connection Send Filter Values To Select one list/library

The following window will open.

Choose the option “Get Filter Values From” and then Click on “Configure”.

Now select the field that you want filtration to be performed

Note that the values of the field coming from the Metadata.

Click on Finish.

Now the selected list or library is linked to the Query String.

Each list and library we want to filter by the Web Part we'll link to the

Query String, According to the process described in *.

Adding the Web Part

Add Taxonomy Web Part to your desired page like any other web part:

Now, select the MS-Addons Taxonomy web part and press on “Add”:

Adding the Taxonomy for the first time Will present the first tree in the

Metadata.

To change the displayed tree go to web Part properties :

Clicking Edit web part will open the properties window. there under the

Category MS-Addons Taxonomy web Part selected the tree you want to

present from the list.

When finished click on Apply ,Ok and Stop Editing(in SharePoint 2013).

Clicking on one of the nodes will open the current page with the lists and libraries

associated which are filtered by the value selected.

Installation Procedure

1. Double click on the Setup.exe file to start the installation process.

2. The wizard will show the Welcome screen:

3. Click Next to advance to the System Checks step.

4. The setup application will run the necessary checks and will indicate

their status.

5. Click Next.

6. Confirm licensing agreement:

7. Check the sites collection you want the product to be deployed to:

8. Click on “Next” and wait for the installation progress do be done:

9. Click on “Next”.

Registration Instructions

Open SharePoint Central Administration, click on the MS-Addons Icon:

Search for the product you want to activate:

Click on the registration button and insert your product key:

After inserting the keys (one for each front end server on your farm), the

product will be activated:
