Box 7 Crivitz, WI 54114 I have noticed a popular graphic going around the past few days on social media. The picture has the word “pastor” in a bubble in the middle, and then float- ing around it are a whole bunch of other bubbles with quotations of people’s strong opinions on what the church should or should not be doing right now. The graphic is then used as a call to ask people to be praying for pastors. First off, I want to thank each and every one of you that prays for me and for my family; we need your prayers and they are so important to the work which we do. However, one of the things that I am thankful about in our polity structure, is that it isn’t all about the pas- tor. Our church is run by a plurality of elders of which the pastor is one of the elders. So if I could step back to that graphic one more time, I would like to slightly adjust it, to “the elders of the church.” I bring this up because I recognize how powerful prayer is, and in the midst of the many decisions we are facing, some of which are immensely difficult, we need your prayers. We do not want to lead this church on our own wisdom and ideas, but we want it to be God that is speaking to us and through us and leading us in which- ever way he wants us to go. It is an immense responsibility and call for an elder to step into that role, and I have tremendous respect for all of our elders who have taken that call on. Please, pray for us. Pray that God would be the one that is speaking to us. Pray that we would be receptive to His voice and guidance. Pray that we would continually be made to reflect Him better. And pray that we would have His wisdom and power at work in everything we decide. Thank you in advance for your support! pre-packed from the

will restart whenever ac-

ademic schools reopen

(kids are still welcome in

church, services are be-

ing kept to closer to an

hour)

- VBS has been canceled

for this summer, the mate-

rials that have been pur-

chased will be used next

Summer.

groups are beginning to

meet again in outside or

other distanced contexts,

talk to the leader of the

small groups to find out

what they are planning

- We will have our Sunday

Service live-streamed and

we will have a midweek

devotional that is posted

to Facebook and

YouTube, emails of these

will be sent out. If you

aren't on our email list,

sign up at crivitzfaith.org.

- Finally, you all have an

amazing group of elders

that love you, and love

Jesus. I am thankful for

the tremendous work

which they have put in

during this time. If you

have a chance, thank

one of your elders for the

hard work which they

have been doing for the

Kingdom of God.

Missions Trip! Dear Family and Friends,

Derrick and I wanted

to share with you all an op-

portunity that God has led

us to this summer. In July we

are planning to travel to the

Island of Helene, which is a

small island off of the main-

land of Honduras. We will

be working alongside Mis-

sion Encounters Internation-

al which is an organization

whose mission is to disciple

others by pursuing relation-

ships that proclaim the gos-

pel and demonstrate the

kingdom of Jesus in all are-

as of life. In the past, I have

had to opportunity to work

with MEI in Helene helping

with their English school and

other work tasks on the mis-

sion base. This summer Der-

rick and I will be part of a

team going with members

from PA and WA. Our focus

will be on evangelism. We

are preparing for men’s

ministry opportunities as well

and women’s and chil-

dren’s ministry. The people

of Helene are warm and

welcoming and there is

much evidence of the Holy

Spirit on that Island, howev-

er, our hearts long for the

lost sheep that have yet to

accept Jesus as their savior.

Derrick and I will be

on the Island for 10 days

and they will be action

packed! As a team we

have begun meeting and

training via zoom to pre-

pare as best as we can to

serve the people of Helene.

My hope is to be able to

update you all as the plans

for those 10 days become

more concrete. Derrick and

I both know how important

it is to have a praying force

while we are doing the

Lord’s work and we ask that

you all would be that force

for us. We do have some

immediate prayer requests

as we continue preparing.

Covid 19 has directly af-

fected two key parts of our

travel: 1. Closure of airports

at this time and 2. The re-

newing of my passport. I am

reminded of the promise

God gives in Exodus 14:14 –

The Lord will fight for you;

you need only be still. I am

confident that the Lord will

work all things out for the

purpose of furthering His

kingdom. I do also know

that the Lord says in John

15:16 – You did not choose

me, but I chose you and

appointed you that you

should go and bear fruit

and that your fruit should

abide, so that whatever

you ask the Father in my

name, he may give it to

you. This promise helps me

to pray with confidence

that the Lord will provide all

the logistics for us to travel.

Thank you for your fu-

ture prayers and support as

we embark on this mission

opportunity. We will contin-

ue to be in touch on our

plans as they solidify. Bless-

ings to you all in the coming

days as we continue to stay

strong during the quaran-

tine.

Sincerely,

Derrick + Lauren McGee

I'm Listening My brain holds a jum-

ble of Christian songs, rang-

ing from Sunday School

children’s standards to

Handel’s “Messiah.” When

one pops to the front, I start

singing it. The voice I hear in

my head is much nicer than

the one that comes from

my mouth. Nonetheless I

love to sing, so if alone I

send it up to God aloud.

Christian songs ad-

dress many moods and life

situations. Hymns hundreds

of years old, like Martin Lu-

ther’s “How Great Thou

Art,” describe the beauty of

God’s world and the majes-

ty of his love that still sounds

fresh today. His words help

us understand the reach of

God’s love and the miracle

of Christ’s resurrection.

John Newton’s

“Amazing Grace,” reflects

his redeemed life. Newton

made the journey from

captain of a slave trading

ship to devoted Christian

after calling out to God dur-

ing a violent sea storm. He

became an ordained An-

glican minister in England

and wrote the lyrics to this

song for a 1773 New Year’s

Day sermon. In fact, many

hymns have a story behind

them, such as Tommy

Dorsey’s “Precious Lord,

Take My Hand,” written in

1932 when his wife and in-

fant son died in childbirth.

In the mood for

something lighter? Try, “Je-

sus loves me, this I know, for

the Bible tells me so. Little

ones to Him belong, they

are weak but He is strong.”

This song tells children that

they are living in God’s love.

Sometimes, I go to

the hymnal and select a

song. Other times, one steps

to the forefront. Often, the

theme is something I have

been pondering. The song

fits and I sing in hope of bet-

ter understanding my faith

life.

I suspect the Holy

Spirit helps select the song.

Wise men and women have

written musical notes and

lyrics that teach the heart

and soul how to believe,

and how to deal with al-

most any problem humans

encounter. Whether time-

honored or contemporary,

Christian music offers com-

fort and news of Christ’s

sacrifice and salvation and

of God’s love.

The selection stored in

me would fill several hym-

nals and many song sheets.

They stay also because of

the memorable music and

because they are tied to

memories. Singing “This Little

Light of Mine,” recalls

basement Sunday School

gatherings, “Children of the

Heavenly Father,” funerals

of lost children, and “Shout

to the Lord” and “Days of

Elijah” the joyous singing of

Faith EPC congregation.

I’m grateful to all who

have written these songs.

Their works inform me, sus-

tain me, and comfort me,

especially at this difficult

time of pandemic.

Thank you, God, for

those you have inspired to

write Christian songs. Their

gift of music will last forever.
