INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER-Job descriptionScope (A brief statement
of overall responsibilities)
Design, calculations and identification of control systems
including pneumatic and hydraulic for new build projects. Preparing
documents and drawings for classification society and client.
Provide engineering support for major conversion projects and yard
activities. Support project tenders by estimating and preparing
MTO.

LEAD ENGINEER
Responsible for: (The main job activities)
Identification, selection and design of control systems for
projects, as required Undertaking design verification and
calculations, as required Generation of system block diagrams,
circuit diagrams, I / O Lists etc. Preparation of documentation for
class and statutory bodies Witnessing factory acceptance tests and
attending dock trials and sea trials Participating in design
reviews and taking necessary follow up actions Follow up with
trades and carry out Inspections during vessel construction Writing
technical specifications for shipboard equipment Perform other job

Preferred Competencies:
Electrical or mechanical engineering degree from a recognized
university. Minimum 5 years experience in the marine automation/
instrumentation field. At least 2 to 3 years experience in a design
office. Knowledge in AutoCAD and computer literacy.

work undertaken is accordance with Departmental Work Instructions,
Procedures and Standards. Prepare tender design & documentation
for new projects. Identification and design of machinery related
jobs for projects. Design of staging towers, heavy-duty platforms,
jigs/support and miscellaneous structures for ships viz. chain
stoppers, helidecks etc. using FEM software. Preparation of
Load-out drawings using ATM system. Writing technical
specifications for shipboard equipment. Preparing technical
specifications for shipboard equipment, technical review of
quotations, liaison with chosen vendor. Preparation of
commissioning procedures for equipments and attending sea-trials.
Witnessing Factory acceptance tests of major equipments. Perform

outfitting designs and procedures for the projects. Organize and

calculations and drawings. Liaise with Class & Owners with

procedures. Ship modeling and structural design/ analysis using
design software. Follow up with trades and carry out inspection
during hull construction and outfitting. Ensure that Production and
Design Activities are complementary and use the latest available
technology, investigate methods for reducing project man-hours,
costs and improving schedule. Check Production model and
participate in design review meetings. Liaise with Fabrication and
Outfitting departments to improve and develop the production
deliverables. Investigate, develop and follow up the feasibility of
introducing new production or design methods, implement new
procedures and system within the Production Engineering team, which
enhance efficiency and productivity. Perform the duties of a

yard engineering deliverables list and schedule. Submission of
engineering status reports for weekly and monthly progress
meetings. Coordinate with the trades and project management team
for various engineering and design requirements of the project.
Advise the project team on the various technical issues as a result
of project execution as regards to class and standard engineering
practice, more specifically on clash checks. Liaisons with the
client, class and third party on engineering requirements. Ensure
the timely submission of yard engineering to client. Ensure the
timely receipt of client engineering details so as not to hamper
smooth construction and highlight the requirement of critical
documents in advance. Preparation and submission of engineering
design, method statements and specific procedures in line with
client requirements. Preparation and submission of the As-built
drawings and data in accordance with contract requirements.
Preparation and submission of the spare parts and
interchangeability record and related documentation. Preparation,
compilation and submission of operation and maintenance manuals as
required. Preparation, compilation and submission of commissioning
