These cities began because people starting living near the factories where they could find jobs

Ex. Sarnia- oil based manufacturing centre

Ex. Fredricton- founded in 1783 by UAL and was a designated town site for military and government buildings. It eventually became the capitol city to the then British colony

Ex. Yellowknife- grew primarily because of the discovery of gold
