August 2015 Urban Design Elements The Australian and South Australian Governments are committed to the delivery of a fully upgraded non-stop North-South Corridor completed over 10 years. Both governments are working collaboratively in a coordinated way to build upon the significant amount of planning work that has already been undertaken. Each will contribute $448 million towards the construction of the $896 million Torrens Road to River Torrens Project. The Torrens Road to River Torrens (T2T) Project is a significant part of the broader North-South Corridor, which will span some 78 kilometres through greater metropolitan Adelaide. In its current form, South Road is congested, narrow in width with heavy freight movements and numerous busy intersections with arterial roads. The T2T Project seeks to address the transport deficiencies while enhancing the appearance of the road corridor by incorporating urban design features that enrich the landscape and create an attractive and integrated public realm. The T2T Project will deliver: 3.0km non-stop roadway 2.0km of lowered motorway Improved east-west connections (pedestrian and vehicular) A railway overpass of the Outer Harbor line Vegetated medians / verges Safe pedestrian links (raised crossings to connect east-west neighbourhoods) A series of public open spaces for community use Improved pedestrian and cycle paths A series of gateway experiences at key intersections to assist in way finding and enhance local character Artist impression of landscaping at South Road and Grange Road / Manton Street intersection in a mature state
