ABOUT UQMSA
The UQ Malaysian Student Association (UQMSA) is an official and non-profitable student body primarily for Malaysian students, based in the UQ St Lucia campus. Individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds including students from other universities, working adults and non-Malaysians are warmly welcomed to be part of our big family throughout the year.
UQMSA is proud to host the largest collection of Malaysians in Queensland as well as a num-ber of non-Malaysians from various countries, with its membership base growing across the years.
Through the promotion of Malaysian culture via fun-filled social and educational activities, UQMSA has been striving to offer members a vibrant campus-culture and community experi-ence, encapsulating UQMSAs motto of being a home-away-from-home. Annual or bi-annual social events like Welcoming BBQ, Mamak Night and Outdoor Excursion act as a plat-form to unite our fellow Malaysians together, alongside offering our members opportunities to fix their cravings for Malaysian delicacies. We also have intellectual programs which pro-vide our members with information on career, internship and volunteering opportunities.
All in all, we aim to offer a myriad of experiences to our members throughout their stay in Brisbane, and to bring a sense of homeliness to our members.

Vice President
Hey guys! I'm Shawn and I am doing my 3rd year of Chemical
Engineering. Being in Australia does make me grow fond of
home, but UQMSA has filled up this emptiness for me. To me,
what makes UQMSA different from other clubs in UQ is be-
cause of the people in it. Nothing beats the sense of belonging
and warmth of UQMSA (not to promote the club, but hey,
that's what many others say as well ;)). Trust me, sometimes
you might feel that you are not in Australia at all. Spread your
wings and adventure, don't worry if you fall, cause UQMSA will
always be there (not starting a poem here, just trying to say
that UQMSA is a good starting point to get to know people and
even lifelong friends)! So do join us and embark an exciting
journey in Sunshine State! Far from home, but close to heart.
Hi peeps! I am Fiona from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, a place
which does not solely comprise of natural rainforests but con-
crete jungles as well. :P Im currently in my third year of
Bachelor of Pharmacy. Having been actively participating in
UQMSA activities since my very first year in Brisbane, Ive
managed to witness how the club has been thriving along
the way, which in turn offers me a platform to grow as well.
It is always encouraging to see how the events of the club
are able to bring all Malaysian fellows together regardless of
race and place of origin. We warmly welcome you to be part
of our big family and lets continue upholding our Malaysian
identities in this foreign land! Hopefully 2015 will be another
productive year for UQMSA and hence another fulfilling year
for our members. Best regards to everyone! :)

Treasurer
Wazzup everyone! The names Chee Chuan and I hail from
Klang, the city in Selangor famous for its Bak Kut Teh! (I
know this intro is pretty lame but seriously, come try it if
you have the chance!) I am currently in my 2ndyear of pur-
suing Mechanical Engineering at UQ. Moving on, I would
describe myself as your average Malaysian dude who just
somehow likes to chillax and go with the flow. Apart from
that, I am more of an introvert who loves gaming
(especially DotA!). Although I can be kinda quiet at times,
its just because I need some recharge from all the social-
ising. Wait till you talk to me and you will see what I am
really capable of, hehe. A last word from me is to try out
whatever activities or events UQ/Brisbane/Australia has to
offer. Remember to not just stay in your room!

Hi there, my name is Lin Rui but most people just call me Lin. I'm
currently a fourth year student pursuing a double degree in Eco-
nomics and Arts. So first let me just say WELCOME! Welcome to UQ
and UQMSA. I hope you'll have a great time here in Brisvegas and
in UQ. Secondly, i guess I should tell you a little abut myself. I'm
from KL, born and raised there. My favourite things pretty much re-
volves around brunches, travelling and shopping, hence, I'm not ex-
actly the most interesting person in the world. That being said, this
would be my fifth year in Brissie (and no, I am not very old), so I
am pretty familiar around here. So if you are ever looking for places
to eat or to travel, feel free to come find me for a chat! Well, that's
about it! I know leaving home feel scary and lonely at times, so
corny as it is, UQMSA intends to provide you a home away from
home. So if ever you feel lonely or just need someone to talk to,
don't hesitate to just approach me for a chat and at the same time,
we'll go hunt for good food. I'm looking forward in meeting every-
one of you !!

Assalamualaikum and Hi everyone! My name is Nur Azila Azahar, you
guys can call me Zila. I'm currently a 2nd year Bachelor of Arts stu-

get to know me, I can be pretty funny and annoying at the same
time. If we happen to bump into each other in the future, don't be
afraid to say hi except when you see me without my glasses cause I
might not be able to recognize you. You know..life's never been easy
for short-sighted people. Apart from psychology, I'm in love with pho-
tography and yes, typography! I love everything that looks good! And
I don't want to only being able to love it but I want to be the one who
can actually do it and share with other people. UQMSA had given me
(and I believe all of us) something more than just a sense of belong-

given a chance to serve back the Malaysian community. I am so look-

Hey peeps! As the sponsorship convener, one of my tasks is to ensure that our
members will have the chance to get all sorts of discounts (perk of being a uni
student!) wherever you go, cause our sponsors are pretty much located
throughout Brisbane. Just a friendly reminder, remember to cultivate a habit
of showing your membership card when paying for meals. Sometimes I only
realize the shops do offer discounts after payment, aaarrrggg... Now jumping
to other topic, personally I enjoy playing soccer (yep aussie call it soccer
haha), reading and watching movies during free time. I have to say UQ is
quite an awesome uni where you get to meet lots of new faces from all over
the world, as we have quite a high number of international students (actually
just like other Australian unis). The thought of arriving in Brisbane for the first
time was still like a thing of yesterday, and now look at me, I am already in
my second year. How time flies! Remember to make full use of your time
here, dont be afraid to meet out with other people, while joining some activi-
ties to enrich your life! When you come to think about it, this is what uni life is
all about. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you are pursuing. We will
make sure to do our best to bring you the benefits and activities you will never
experience elsewhere.

A few words from our previous
President of 2013/14...
With a large array of delicious food to warm company, the UQ Malay-
sian Students Association has been bringing everything from the
unique to the wonderful to its members for as long I can remember.
UQMSA has always been successful at bringing people together
through its Malaysian themed food and fun loving activities. Though
behind all the food and the events lies a club with an ambition to fos-
ter a sense of belonging; basically a home away from home. This ob-
jective has always been the major driving force behind everything
UQMSA. Everything we do is with the hope that people can find some-
thing for themselves; a support group that young Malaysians starting
out in Brisbane could relate to. Over the years, Ive seen long lasting
friendships and memories formed. This has certainly been the hall-
mark of the clubs success; an even more significant milestone than
the numerous awards the club has accumulated over the years! It is
for our fellow Malaysians that we strive for; to encourage; to adapt
and to grow together.

What does UQMSA mean to you?
My fondest memories of the club have really revolved around
the people that Ive met throughout my time there. It pro-
vided a platform for me to have a fresh start here in Brisbane
yet it gave me the familiarity that I needed when adapting in
a foreign place. Its amazing exactly how much of a Malay-
sian one can feel like despite being so far away from home.
Thats what this club does for people and thats why it means
something important to me. So if youre looking a place to go
and people to meet, drop by to one of MSAs events and Im
sure youll find yourself a pleasant experience to what this
club has to offer.
What has UQMSA offered you?
While closing the chapter of 2014 and keeping all the precious
memories to your heart, let us start the new chapter of 2015
which is going to be even more exciting!
Part of this awesomeness will certainly be attributed to our
