GOSPEL: John 1:35-42
Upper Mt Gravatt Wishart Parish
Guided by the Holy Spirit, we aim to be an evangelising, faith-filled parish whose members care for one another and are welcoming and inclusive.
The Upper Mt Gravatt Wishart Catholic Parish acknowledges the Jaggera and Turribul people, the Traditional Custodians who have walked upon and cared for this land for thousands of years.
We acknowledge the continued deep spiritual attachment and relationship of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to this Country and commit ourselves to the ongoing journey of Reconciliation.
A major theme of the Scripture readings is ‘God’s call and our response’.
The story of Samuel’s call in the first reading indicates that the call of the Lord can be confused with the call of other people and the attraction of things. Help may be needed to recognise God’s voice. When one recognises God’s voice, it takes courage to reply, ‘Speak Lord, for your servant is listening,’ and to say as the psalmist, ‘Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.’
Paul focuses God’s call on challenges that continue in our world today. In today’s reading we pick up one challenge: to respect our body and the bodies of others. Paul holds up the body as a gift from God to be treated as such. We are mem-bers of Christ’s Body; we must respect others as part of that Body.
Like the first reading and the psalm, John’s Gospel features God’s call and our response. Jesus invites us to ponder the question, ‘What are you looking for?’ We need to be open to the Lord working in our life, to recognise that he is calling us and to be ready to respond to the call.
Who is Jesus? Why are we called Christian? What’s it got to do with being Catholic? Why do we celebrate the way we do?
Come and join us if you would like to explore some of the Questions...and more! If you are seeking answers and interested in the Catholic faith you are most welcome to join our friendly team. We will gather in St Bernard’s Community Centre on Monday 18 January 7.00 pm - Eucharist and the Structure of the Mass. As per current Covid-19 protocols face masks must be worn by all in attendance.

1. I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. All who dwell in dark and sin my hand will save I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?
Refrain: Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard You calling in the night. I will go, Lord, If You lead me. I will hold Your people in my heart
2. I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame. I will set a feast for them. My hand will save Finest bread I will provide 'til their hearts be satisfied. I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?

GLORIA
Antiphon: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you, We bless you, We adore you, We glorify you, We give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God heavenly king, O God, almighty father. Antiphon
Lord Jesus Christ, Only begotten son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the father, You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; You are seated at the right hand of the father, Have mercy on us. Antiphon
For you alone are the holy one, You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, With the Holy Spirit, In the glory of God, the Father. Antiphon
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

[Christian Initiation of Children of Catechetical Age]
Dear parents and carers, Registrations are open for children over 7 years who wish to receive the Sacraments in 2021. There are four steps:
Step 1: REGISTER - Contact the Parish Sacramental Registrar (Michelle) now on 3849 7158 and register your child who will receive a Mass card.
Step 2: PARTICIPATION IN LITURGY - Book your family in to regular weekend parish Masses to enable your child to participate in the liturgy as much as he/she is ready and begins to feel at home and confident in the church.
Step 3: INVITATION - As Fr Pat gets to know you and your child he will write and invite you to take the next step.
Step 4: ENROL/PREPARE/CELEBRATE - Children are enrolled in the Sacramental Program and will attend family centred activity sessions to prepare for the celebration of Confirmation and First Communion.
From registration to reception of the Sacraments, practices are based on a child’s readiness. It is tailored individually for families and children. If children are not yet Baptised, please contact the parish office to speak to us. Both Fr Pat and I are happy to talk to you about the process and assist you in any way.
