Learning with Miss T In week 9, my students revised persuasive writing, watched a clip on “symbols, connotation and imagery” and focussed on “age” and “our” words. In science, we discussed how animals adapt to survive, plus read about and discussed Australian animals. In maths, we used the “Jungle Money” app to build our understanding of how to correctly give change. The “Jungle Geometry” app helped us revise angle types and how to measure them. To build our understanding of perimeter and area, we used our MAB blocks to create shapes with specific areas and perimeters. We also revised multiplication and completed problem and mental activities. In art we studied the art of Sandra Silezerburg and created our own abstract portraits using chalk pastels on black cardboard. On Friday, Sam and Noah made yummy chocolate crackles.

Learning with Mrs Powell Week 10 Book Study: We are studying the text All Through the Year, a timeless account of a year in the life of an Australian family. This story links with themes of a year, treasuring each day, seasons and months of the year.

Week 9 Book Study: We studied the Text Why I Love Australia, which is a story about celebrating Australia in children’s own words. The students learnt concepts of celebrating Australia’s landmarks, animals and culture.

Week 9 Writing: The students created a guided Acrostic poem of Australia, opinion writing about why we love Australia and also used informative facts about natural and built features.

We are focusing on targeted vocabulary which we use from our rich texts. In writing, the students are using words such as “sacred”, “famous” “outback” and “indigenous culture”.

Week 9 writing samples Why I Love Australia:

Archie: The best part of Australia is lots of sports. It has lots of different places.

Kelsie: I love Australia because the beaches are the best. Australia has yummy food.

Learning with Mrs Powell Arlo: In Australia we have natural features and built features. The most famous natural fea-tures are sandy beaches, scared Uluru, a colourful reef, a busy harbour and green rainforests. The amazing built features are the tall harbour bridge, pointy opera house, the big banana statue, fun parks with rollercoasters and full sport stadiums. Australia has so much beauty to see. Green and yellow are our colours to show our scenery.

Week 9 and 10 Kindy Maths: The students are revising all concepts learnt this term. We are focusing on sequencing numbers before and after 1-20, ready to start working on numbers 1-30 next term.

Week 9 and 10 Year 1 Maths: The students are revising all concepts learnt this term. We are focusing on sequencing numbers before and after up to 50, ready to start working on numbers 1-100 next term.

Science Living World: The students have been learning about how living things meet our needs and products we can get from different living things eg. food (from animals and plants), clothing (wool) and shelter (houses from wood).

History Past and Present family life: The students have been sequencing their life with photos of themselves, they identified which ones were in the past (baby photos) and which ones are in the present (photos of them now). The students have also been identifying old and new things and compared them to what they know. Thank you to the parents for your co-operation in providing the family photos for your child.

Week 9 awards from Mrs Powell:

Arlo: Great writing on Natural and Built features of Australia

Archie: Reader of the week
