    JOB SPECIFICATION 1 JOB TITLE: MOTORCYCLE SERVICE MECHANIC

    LEVEL - 1 2 JOB DESCRIPTION:

    A motorcycle service mechanic L-1 changes engine oil, front fork oil, lubricates transmission and components and services air filter, battery and spark plug.

    3 LIST OF TASKS:

    1. Changing engine oil.

    2. Lubricating Transmission.

    3. Changing front fork oil.

    4. Lubricating components.

    5. Servicing air filter.

    6. Servicing battery.

    7. Servicing spark plug.

    4. QUALIFYING NOTES (ENTRY REQUIREMENTS NOTES) - Physical requirements: Normal health, no special physical requirement demanded by this job. - Education requirements: Able to understand verbal instructions and read workshop manual and / or manufacturer's

    specification.

    A motorcycle / engine, Workshop manual with lubrication chart, Engine oil, Open ended ring spanners, Funnel, Used oil container, Measuring pot, Wire brush, Kerosene, Jute, Oil seal / Gasket, Waste rags.

    8 TASK PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

    Mechanic dressed in appropriate safety clothing.

    Appropriate common hand tools selected.

    Engine lubricants selected as per manufacturer's specifications.

    Engine oil filler cap and drain plug removed without damaging seal / threads.

    Engine oil drained into specified container without spilling on the ground.

    Engine crankcase cleaned for mud / iron particles and foreign materials.

    Drain plug reinstalled without damaging seal / threads.

    Engine oil refilled to the specified level as per manufacturer's specification.

    Engine checked for oil leaks no leakage found.

    Engine oil filler cap refitted without damaging seal / threads.

    Excess oil form engine and work area cleaned.

    Used tools cleaned and returned to the specified location.

    Lubricating oil refilled with specified oil to indicated level.

    Gearbox checked for oil leaks and no leakage found.

    Battery cables removed without damage to battery and cable.

    Battery cable and clamp inspected, finding of twisting, crushing or naked wire reported, damaged clamp reported.

    Alkali deposit removed from battery terminals.

    Electrolyte's specific gravity determined.

    Battery toped up with distilled water as instructed.

    Battery cable refitted without damage to battery terminals and clamped firmly.

    Used tools and battery cleaning kits cleaned and returned to specified location.

    6.8 Top up the battery with distilled water as instruction.

    6.9 Refit the battery cable without damage to clamp and battery terminal with appropriate tightness.

    8 TASK PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

    Mechanic dressed in appropriate safety clothing.

    Appropriate common hand tools and equipment selected.

    Spark plug removed as specified without damaging seal and thread.

    No carbon deposits on centre electrodes after cleaning spark plug with spark plug cleaning equipment and point file of scraper or emery paper or wire brush.

    Faulty / inefficient / damaged spark plug identified and reported.

    Replacement spark plug selected as specified (standards).

    Spark plug gap adjusted as per manufacturer's specification with feeler gauge. Spark plug refitted as specified torque without damaging seal and threads.

    Used tools and equipment cleaned and returned to specified location.
