1.1 Verify the integrity of each unit pack before use. Clean the rubber seal on the pen per your usual technique or protocol.Take the Peel Tab off the Pen Needle. Holding the Outer Cover, push and twist the Pen Needle onto the pen in a clockwise direction until it meets resistance.
1.2 Pull ONLY the Outer Cover straight off.
1.3 Always check the flow in the Pen Needle before each injection by priming the device with an airshot. Dial 2 units, point the pen up and press the button. A drop or stream of liquid should appear at the Needle tip. IF NOT, repeat as recommended by the pen’s instructions. If the pen still does not prime, change the Needle and repeat the priming steps.
Note: A drop of liquid may fall back into the Shield, which may result in excess fluid being left on the skin after injection.
Dial the prescribed dose on the pen (per manufacturers instruction). Hold the pen as shown. Your thumb should not be on the button during this step.
Insert the Needle straight into the skin in one continuous motion until the Clear Outer Shield retracts and the White Sleeve is flush with the skin.
Refer to figures 2.1a, 2.2 and 2.3.
Maintain constant pressure against the skin and deliver the dose by depressing the button with your thumb. Do not remove the Needle until the dose has been completely delivered. Refer to the instructions of the pen manufacturer for specific hold time.
If there is a concern for potential intramuscular injection, use a wide pinch, allowing approximately 1 inch of skin between the fingers after the pinch is completed.
Refer to figure 2.1b.
X Incorrect Technique
DO NOT pinch less than 1 inch of skin between the fingers.
AVOID holding the insulin pen angled as you would hold an insulin syringe.
DO NOT inject with the Needle pointing at an angle towards your fingers; this may result in a needle-stick injury.
3.1 Once the entire dose has been given, lift the pen away from the skin. The Inner Shield will automatically deploy and lock in place. A Red Indicator Band will appear confirming Shield is locked in place and that the Pen Needle has been used.
3.2 Always hold the Pen Needle by the White Sleeve when removing. Twist the pen counterclockwise.
3.3 Pen Connection End is protected. Protection is confirmed when orange shield deploys and covers Needle.
DO NOT place your fingers on the activated shields.
Discard the used Pen Needle into a Sharps Collector.
Note: Dispose of all plastic packaging materials.

The product has two safety shields, which lock in place after use (patient-end) and upon removal of the Needle from the pen (pen connection-end).The locked shields help reduce the occurrence of needle sticks from both ends of the Needle.

1.1 Vérifier l’intégrité de chaque sachet avant l’utilisation. Nettoyer le sceau de caoutchouc du stylo selon votre technique habituelle ou le protocole proposé. Retirer la languette métallique de l’aiguille. En maintenant l’enveloppe externe, pousser et visser l’aiguille dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre sur le stylo injecteur, jusqu’à ce qu’il y ait une résistance.
1.2 Retirer UNIQUEMENT l’enveloppe externe.
1.3 Toujours vérifier l’écoulement de l’insuline dans l’aiguille avant chaque injection en amorçant le dispositif selon les étapes suivantes. Prélevez 2 unités, pointez le stylo vers le haut et appuyez sur le bouton injecteur. Une goutte ou un jet de liquide devrait apparaître au bout de l’aiguille. Sinon, répétez le processus tel que recommandé selon les instructions du stylo injecteur. Si le stylo injecteur ne s’amorce toujours pas, changer l’aiguille et répéter les étapes d’amorçage.Note: Une goutte de liquide pourrait retomber dans l’embout protecteur, ce qui pourrait entraîner un excédant de fluide laissé sur la peau suite à l’injection.
Régler la dose prescrite sur le stylo injecteur (selon les instructions du fabriquant). Tenir le stylo injecteur tel qu’illustré. Votre pouce ne devrait pas être sur le bouton d’injection à cette étape-ci.
Insérer l’aiguille directement dans la peau en un mouvement continu jusqu’à ce que l’embout externe clair et le manchon blanc soient au niveau avec la peau.
Référez-vous aux figures 2.1a, 2.2 et 2.3.
Maintenir une pression constante contre la peau et injecter la dose en appuyant sur le bouton d’injection à l’aide de votre pouce. NE PAS retirer l’aiguille avant que la dose soit complètement injectée. Se référer aux directives du fabriquant du stylo injecteur pour obtenir les temps d’injections recommandés.
S’il y a un risque potentiel d’injection intramusculaire, faire usage d’un pli cutané large de façon à tenir 2,5cm de peau entre les doigts lorsque le pli est complété.
Référez-vous à la figure 2.1b.
X Technique inexacte
NE PAS pincer moins de 2,5cm de peau entre les doigts.
ÉVITEZ de tenir le stylo injecteur dans un angle, de la même façon que l’on tiendrait une seringue à insuline.
NE PAS injecter avec l’aiguille pointant à un angle dirigé vers les doigts, ceci pourrait causer une piqûre accidentelle.
3.1 Dès que la dose complète a été injectée, retirer le stylo injecteur de la peau. L’embout protecteur interne se déploiera automatiquement et se verrouillera. Une bande indicatrice de couleur rouge apparaîtra, confirmant que l’embout protecteur est verrouillé et que l’aiguille a été utilisée.
3.2 Toujours tenir l’aiguille à stylo par le manchon blanc lors de son retrait. Tourner le stylo-injecteur dans le sens contraire des aiguilles d’une montre.
3.3 Le bout connecteur du stylo injecteur est protégé. La protection est assurée lorsque l’embout orange se déploie et couvre l’aiguille.
NE PAS placer vos doigts sur l’embout protecteur activé.
Disposer de l’aiguille utilisée dans un contenant prévu à cet effet. Note: Disposer adéquatement de tout emballage de plastique.
L’aiguille pour stylo-injecteur BD AutoShieldmc Duo est conçue pour être utilisée avec des dispositifs d’injection de médication de type stylo.
Ce produit offre deux embouts sécuritaires qui se bloquent automatiquement après usage (côté patient) et lors du retrait de l’aiguille du stylo injecteur (embout connecteur du stylo). Les embouts ainsi bloqués aident à diminuer la possibilité de blessures causées par les deux extrémités de l’aiguille.
