Keep in mind, I pull this information from many different sources and I have no way to validate whether or not it is all correct. Sometimes I find TWO different descriptions of a color (or more) and when I do I list all that I have found. Color codes are used industry wide to indicate the color or colors from which a wig or hairpiece is made. These colors can vary from style to style. Some reasons for variations have to do with coming from a different maker, different factory, different type of fiber, different dye lot and a different wig pattern. For the most part a single letter color code will look very similar across makers/factories/synthetic fiber/dye lots and wig patterns. The only exception will be the color/texture differences between human hair and any kind of synthetic fiber. Human hair colors tend to be lighter, have less shine and less depth to the color. For color codes which are named or are blends, mixes, highlighted, frosted etc., these may have more color differences between maker, factory, fiber, dye lot and particularly wig pattern. COLOR INDEX **NOTE: I update this on occasion as I learn new things- so please come back often and check the “updated date” in the upper right corner to see if I’ve

made an update since you last checked. Keep in mind, I pull this information from many different sources and I have no way to validate whether or not it is

all correct. Sometimes I find TWO different descriptions of a color (or more) and when I do I list all that I have found.

Color codes are used industry wide to indicate the color or colors from which a wig or hairpiece is made. These colors can vary

from style to style. Some reasons for variations have to do with coming from a different maker, different factory, different type

of fiber, different dye lot and a different wig pattern.

For the most part a single letter color code will look very similar across makers/factories/synthetic fiber/dye lots and wig

patterns. The only exception will be the color/texture differences between human hair and any kind of synthetic fiber. Human

hair colors tend to be lighter, have less shine and less depth to the color.

For color codes which are named or are blends, mixes, highlighted, frosted etc., these may have more color differences

between maker, factory, fiber, dye lot and particularly wig pattern.

Color code families ✓ BLACK 1 – 2

As in all things color, definitions vary. 1 one is considered a pure black color, while a 1b is considered

an “off black” because it is a bit warmer. When you get to a #2, you will find that some people will

refer to a #2 as a VERY dark brown. It is actually a very dark cool toned brown hair, which appears

black to the eye in most lighting, which is why some will call it black while some call it the darkest

brown.

✓ BROWN 4 – 12

In some wigs a 4 can seem VERY dark, but it is actually a full level lighter than a #2, and will have

more golden/red tones than a #2, even though most people can’t see them with their eye because they

are totally blended. Brown colors all have some red in them, which is what makes them brown vs

black.

✓ BLONDE 14 – 26

Some people will say that a 14 can appear like a very light brown which goes to show that color is

often in the eye of the beholder. If you are a natural brunette, you may be colors on the front of the

blonde scale to be more blonde, and if you are a natural blonde you may find those same colors to be

more brunette in tone.

✓ RED 27 – 33, Vibrant red is 130 – 134

Page 3: Updated: 8/2/20 COLOR INDEX

Updated: 8/2/20

Wig color codes closer to 27 will be more of your Strawberry Blond red colors. As you get

closer to 33, that’s when you get into your Red/Brown or Auburn shades. Jump to 130 and

we’re getting into the fiery, super-vibrant reds.

✓ GREY 34 – 60 & 92

The same is with Grays. Starting at 34, we get more of a salt & pepper blend (think the color

Milkshake by Jon Renau). As we approach color 60, that’s when you’re getting more towards a

full gray.

✓ PLATINUM 101 – 104, 613

Color 101 kicks off the Platinum blond scale (Jon Renau’s Palm Springs from their new

California Blondes human hair collection has a 102 in it). The closer to 101, the more

cool/ashy the blond tone is. As you move towards 104, it gets warmer. 613 is actually quite

buttery.

Jon Renau 10H16- This has a base color of 10 (light brown), with a highlight color of 16 (blond family). Industry -standard is a

highlight at about 20%, so 20% of the hair will have the lighter color sewn through it.

10RH16. Whereas 10H16 means 20% highlights, 10RH16 is Jon Renau specific, and means there are 33% highlights.

The result is a slightly lighter, brighter look.

8H14. It has a base color of 8 (a neutral brown) with a 20% highlight of 14 (blond family). (NOTE: Estetica’s color

code for this same color is 14/8- they reverse their color codes and put the base last)

JR’s Fashion Syrup colors make up the FS series. They have bolder highlights that are grouped more closely together

(and come in fun names like Strawberry Syrup, Caramel Syrup, and Chocolate Cherry…among others!)

Toffee Truffle is FS6/30/27. A base of 6 (neutral brown) blended with an equal amount of both 30 and 27. 27 is more

on the strawberry blond side, and 30 is heading more towards auburn. The result is pops of color throughout the

piece.

T and B in wig colors. T means tipped and B means evenly blended. EXAMPLE: 12/30BT, Root Beer Float. B means

that 12 (light brown) is evenly blended with 30 (reddish color), and is tipped with that same reddish color.
