TSTC is “Different” • State Agency • Funded differently than

Community Colleges (CCs) • Value Based Funding

• Not contact hours • Mission

• Place more Texans! • Great paying jobs!

Page 9: Update on TSTC in FBC - Sugar Land, Texas

We’re “different” by design

• How often do you hear…? – From State Agency or Higher Ed

• “Hold us accountable” • “Pay us on our performance”

Page 10: Update on TSTC in FBC - Sugar Land, Texas

What Differentiates Us?

•The way we “earn” our money

•CCs paid on “contact hours” (activity)

•TSTC paid on “value-added” formula Placement (jobs)—results Implemented in 2013 via Legislature

Unique Funding Formula

• All of TSTC’s state funding – Will depend on the employment and

earnings of its graduates – Simply put, TSTC will not receive

State funding for a student until and unless that student is placed in a job

• Forbes Magazine, June 2016

TSTC Facts TSTC ranks consistently as a top college in the nation for conferring associate degrees in STEM fields like engineering, precision production, computer information systems degrees, communication and information sciences, and in enrollment of Hispanic students.

All this makes TSTC one of Texas’ best investments in post-

secondary education.

Many TSTC STEM-program graduates earn salaries that are better than 4-year graduates in non-STEM fields.

TSTC tuition & fees average $9,000—$10,000 for an Associate degree compared to $40,000 for two

years at proprietary schools.
