• Andrea Servida presented the proposal in RIPE 66

• The RIPE Community expressed its concerns

• The RIPE NCC liaised with the technical community to

give feedback

Liaising with the EU Parliament

• Proposed specific amendments to the text in

coordination with the RIPE community

• Liaising with specific MEPs to improve our

understanding on process and goals of legislation

• The RIPE NCC and RIPE community participants sent a

letter to MEPs with the amendments expressing their

concerns

Liaising with the Council of the EU

• Liaised with EU national authorities

• The Greek national representatives participated at the

RIPE 67 --> they showed great interest

• Liaised with the Dutch national representatives --> great

cooperation too

A Great Example

• First time the RIPE NCC was involved in such a process

• Input was welcome by MEPs and national authorities,

even at a later stage of the discussions

• Increased mutual understanding (authorities and

technical communities concerns)

• Towards a solution that shows responsibility of states

without jeopardising the Internet architecture

• Building on RIPE NCC’s ability to engage and respond to

relevant legislative proposals
