House Frisbee

Sports Week got off to a flying start with House Frisbee on Monday. After a lovely morning in the sweltering sun with guest coach Mr Roberts, the much awaited, Y6 Frisbee Tournament began! Every team performed superbly in all three fiercely fought matches, with brilliant throwing and catching skills. Windrush came out the glorious winner of House Frisbee. It was very well-run and everyone enjoyed it wholeheartedly.

Junior Sports Day

Excited parents gathered to see their children race at the WHPS Junior Sports Day. With big smiles on their faces, everyone participated in the sprints, relay races, and long-distance races. The competition was fierce and everybody tried their best to win the cup for their house. In the end Leach prevailed and ended the day with a spectacular victory lap and smiling podium pictures.

Sports Field Events

The WHPS field erupted in shouts of encouragement as the much-anticpated Sports Day Competitions commenced. Coln, Leach, Windrush and Churn had started the battle for glory. After a round robin of field events, Churn seized victory through their skills in javelin, long jump, discus, vortex and shot put; they were closely followed by the remaining houses, all within a handful of points of each other.

Y3 We The Curious visit, Bristol

We had a great time learning about our new science topic ‘Light and Shadow’. Our favourite part was the ‘Light Fantastic Show’ as the presenter showed us lots of amazing light experiments. We had a really enjoyable trip and we were sad to leave! What a superb way to start our topic!

Y4 Evacuation

On Wednesday 12th October 1940, my classmates and I were evacuated to Winchcombe because Acton was no longer safe for us. I arrived at the station wearing my best clothes: a hazelnut-brown woollen jumper, knitted by my ma, a warm, cosy polo shirt, a grey school skirt, school socks and school shoes. I was carrying a photo of my parents, Buttons the mangled teddy and some sandwiches for the long journey that lay ahead of me. On arrival at the station, we met Farmer Martin who was the billeting officer and our future guardian. He told us that while the rest of Britain had rations, we would get fresh eggs and milk every day. by Daisy M Y4

Cheltenham Swimming Gala

Well done to the Y6 and Y5 swimming teams, who both achieved silver medals in last night’s gala at Leisure @. All the children did amazingly well after a full-on day of athletics at school. Both teams swam exceedingly fast in their heats to gain a place in their respective finals. Luke, Mateo, Bonnie and Alice also swam in the individual races, with the girls both gaining a place in the final and Bonnie achieving an individual bronze. An exciting evening was had by all. This is the most medals we have ever achieved in the eleven years I have entered a team. Mrs Redman

Pupil success

Joseph & Leo Y4 completed a two hour distance swim. They both swam 3000 metres which is 120 lengths!

Noah played in the South West regional qualifier for Wee Wonders Golf at Cumberwell Park near Bath and came 1st in the 6 years and under category. As a result he has qualified for the SW of England finals in July 2019.

Bonnie Y6 performed at the Cheltenham Festival and achieved a commendation for her solo singing performance and a gold medal for her duologue.

Other news

Warden Hill Primary School has joined a new recycling writing instruments scheme. Each class has a recycling point in their classroom. Please bring in Pens, felt tips, highlighters, markers, mechanical pencils, Tipp-Ex (tape and pots), fountain pens and ink cartridges. We will then take them to a recycling collection point where a company will recycle these items to make watering cans, tables and bins. By Lola, Ashton, Hannah, Alice J
