Suggestions for proposed next regulations (M0) with regard to modifications in existing curriculum

aspects

o Tentative course structure for R20 is prepared with 14 PC subjects, 11 labs and 5 PEs with focus on

GATE syllabus content.

o Syllabus should be fine tuned to meet the number of classes available and the syllabus prcompetitive exams such as GATE, UPSC etc.

If needed, few subjects should be merged deleting obsolete topics.

Lab syllabus also should be modified to include only necessary experiments as per the available

classes in the semester and provision may be given for I or 2 additional experiments depending on

availability, which can be even demonstrative in nature.

It is advised that CE students should plan for IT related career through the concerned Open electives

offered by the respedtive departments.

1' Finalization o.f course structure for B. Tech program under R 20 regurationso The proposed course structure for g.rech programme under R20 Regulations isthoroughly discussed and approved by the BOS members.

2' Detailed discussion on course content (syllabus) of semesters I-IV under R20 Regulationsalongwith Course Outcomes (COgo The course content for I-IV semesters under R20 Regulations is discussed and approved.' very few suggestions for addition of experiments/to;ics, ifpossible, are suggested whichwill be discussed in the department before finarizingthe contents.

3. Discussion and approval of Open Electiveso The proposed open electives and their objectives of floating to students of otherdepartments are discussed and are approved.o It is suggested by the BoS members to consider the possibility of floating Rs & GIS;which is a programme core course, as open elective to the other departments in future.

4' Discussion on tlG Degree with additional Minor Engineering (20 credits through Moocs-as per AICTE Model curriculum)

' The BoS members opined that ihe best option for floating Minor degree is choice-2,where 40yo credttis given to Lab.o*pon.rt.o The Moocs stibjects that are being proposed for awarding Minor degree may not fit theminimum needs of departmental requirement. Minutes of Board of Studies (BoS) Meeting 1. The meeting began by discussing about the Minor Engineering program that is proposed to be introduced in R20 curriculum.

2. Members suggested that instead of 20 credits allocated for other branch courses, 21 credits may be allocated for Minor Engineering.There may be 7 or 8 courses in two groups in the program where

3. Minor Engineering is sought.

4. In case, if a student is willing to opt for Minor Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering, the two groups can be, first one from Electronics and second one from Communication.

5. The two groups should cover two basiC courses and remainingadvanced courses.

6. It was pointed out that instead of having two open electives in VII

semester, better to start open electives from IV semester onwards.

7. While discussing about open electives offered by the Department,Internet of Things may be one of the open electives.

8. Electronic Communication systems by George Kennedy may be considered as the text book during syllabus Communication Engineering subject.

9. Fundamental concepts are to be included in the Signal Processing course.

10. In open electives, Advanced Microcontroller course may be replaced with Embedded Systems course.

11. In open elective courses, "Medical Image Processing" course may be renamed as "Image Processing' or may be replaced with "Cellular Communications",

12. Display devices, LED TVs, OLEDs can be the contents for CellularCommunications course.

13. Open Elective courses need not be offered to all the Departments. If any branch is not having a basic course for a specific Open Elective then for that branch, that course should not be offered.

14. In the course, Economics for Engineers in V semester, it should be seen that accountancy must be added which is a fundamental requirement for future entrepreneurs, and the course title can be "Economics and Accountancy for Engineers",

15. It was strongly recommended that Engineering Chemistry and its Lab courses may be removed and may be replaced with "Materials Science" course. This is in view of proliferation of new courses; advanced courses of the program can be incorporated. 16. Engineering physics course should cover solid state physics as well as optics and its syllabus should be so framed that Fundamentals of Electronics course can directly begin with PN junction diode. 17. All the basic concepts of semiconductors can be included in Engineering Physics course. 18. The basic core course Fundamentals of Electronics course can be renamed as Fundamentals of Electronic Devices and Circuits, as suggested. Further, it was also pointed out that the framed syllabus is very vast and will be difficult to cover within stipulated hours. 19. The proposed two theory courses "Fundamentals of Electronics" and "Analog Circuits" can be made

22. It was pointed out that Foreign language certification need not be credit based course. Indeed it can be made a mandatory course with zero credits.

23. The external members enquired the need for incorporating four mathematical courses in the curriculum. It was mentioned that the number of courses can be reduced to three and fourth course can be incorporated with mathematical foundations that are needed for core courses that should be non repetitive. 24. The members suggested that Disaster Management course should be included as a mandatory course which can be taught by departmentfaculty itself.

25. The external members opinioned that there should not be any choicein the end examination questions in view of the relative grading system.

26. It was pointed out that II semester is overloaded with core courses.

27. EPICS -I course can be shifted to V semester instead of III semester and EPICS -II can be moved to VII semester.

28. The members suggested that senior faculty members should it together while finalizing the syllabus for Mathematics courscs unler basic sciences category.

29. Principles of Communication even though Pulse digital modulation is added, as suggested.

communications with detection and estimation from Simon Haykin as Unit -I.

31. The detailed syllabus of courses under Signal Processing module was

reviewed and suggested to redefine the course outcomes. Instead of understand, it can be model action verb in Course Outcome 2 as felt.

Minutes of BoS Meting lHeld on 16-07-2020 () R20 Course Structure- Both UG (Mechancial Engineering) and PG (Thermal EDgineering)

.The protessional core component according to AICTE is 48, but the component in the

R20 regulation is 58. It is requested to look into this matter and if the variation is

allowed it can be kept as it is. The percentage variation is around 20 percent and it can

be allowed.

In the tirst semester 20 eredits are allotted and it's seems to be heavy. There is also

orientation program and the class work need to be planned excluding the orientation

program.

In the sccond semester, environmental science it is a mandatory course is introduced.

It's better if it is placed in the second year so that the lateral entry students will also

study. EPICS may be too early to be introduced at the second year level. If possible it may

be shifted to later semester depending on convince. It can also be made as a

mandatory course.

.Production Technology and Modeling Lab should be renamed with Production

Technology Lab as it is not possible to carry the modelling of the production

processes.

Suggested: In the machine drawing, one unit can be of modelling so that the

components of the machine drawing can be drawn using software's like CATIA. The

subject can be renamed as computer aided machine drawing and the extermal exam

will be of conventional type which includes part drawing and assembly drawing. For

the modelling internal evaluation with 10 marks is allowed.

GATE examination. If not possible, it can be made as program elective.

In Industrial Economics and Manageme it is requested to include the economics

part and if not possible, it can be made as lndustrial Management. Also can include

10) Discussion om Minor Degree. For mechnaical students, the Minor Degree in other disciplines of engineering can be

introduced with 18 to 20 credits for the meritorious students with a CGPA of 8.0 and above.

The study of minor degree need to start from V semester with well defined course structure

covering the core courses of the concermed branch. The course structure for the minor degree

need to be approved in the BoS meeting of the concem branch.

1) R-17 M.Tech (Thermal Engineering) course structure and the syllabus. In the second semester for the course Renewable Energy Technology offer the

Renewable Energy Technology lab also.

The syllabus for the course Computational fluid dynamics should be modified

The students may be sent to do their internship in industries or R&D units

Include the course Fuels combustion and environment in the course structure.

offer the course Energy conservation and management

If you want include pollution, name the course as Internal combustion engines

and pollution

2) CEO and CO's of R-17 M.Tech CoursesBOS members have given necessary inputs to write the statements of CEO and CO for the R-

17 courses.

Try to modify the CEO statement. It should not be written in paragraph.lt should be crispy

and reflect the meaning of the course.

The CO statements should be meaningful and measurable and it should starrt with apt action

verb.

3) CO-PO Articulation Matrix.Care sholud be taken while mapping CO with PO giving proper weightages.

It is not mandatory to map COs with all POs

Try to include PSO since P.G is a specialized programme

Minutes of BoS Meeting Held on 16-07-2020

1) R-20 M.Tech (Thermal Engineering) course structure and the syllabuS In the second semester- PC- Design of Solar and Wind Energy Systems can be

renamed as Renewable Energy Technology.

The mini project can be renamed as mini project with seminar to include the

seminar term in the course structure.

The Advanced Heat and Mass Transfer syllabus is similar to B.Tech apart

from 5 unit. It is requested to include 2D concepts and finite different methods.

In Turbo machinery subject, include steam turbines instead of nozzles.

In Advanced Fluid Mechanics, replace the laminar flow with the viscous flow.

Disaster Management- verify whether it is mandatory for all the branches.

In hybrid electric vehicles, it is recommended to include photovoltaic cells and

fuel cell based hybrid vehicles.

Rename the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning as Refrigeration and

Cryogenics.

2) CEO and CO's of R-20 M.Tech Courses

BOS members have given necessary inputs to write the statements of CEO and CO for the R-

20 courses.

The CEO statement should be crispy and reflect the meaning of the course.

The CO statements should be measurable and it should not be too lenghty.

The BoS chairman expressed sincere thanks for all the members for attending the meeting-and for

providing valuable suggestions. The meeting concluded at 5.00 PM
