A ceiling lamp with LED technology for indoor and outdoor installation on walls and ceilings (IP65 protection rating). Its use is particularly indicated in situations where it may be convenient to integrate emergency lighting into ordinary lighting, such as, for example, condominium stairs, services, elevators and shops. The light can be used in permanent operation (SA) and non-permanent operation (SE).The range consists of models with self-diagnosis functions, models equipped with presence / movement sensors with twilight function. The use of the most advanced models equipped with a presence sensor with twilight function makes it possible to rationalize ordinary lighting, making it available only when needed, disabling the lighting at night. However, emergency functions are always guaranteed.

The range of LED inverters produced by ATS Elettronica is able to satisfy all the powers currently available on the market.

These devices allow the creation of an autonomous emergency lighting system with automatic intervention in the event of a blackout; their use is indicated, therefore, in situations where it is necessary to have adequate light power even in emergency situations. All models are available for non-permanent (emergency only) functionality and permanent (always on) functionality.

INVERTER

ATS ELETTRONICA

Page 101: Untitled - HAGOS

The range is divided into two macrofamilies: "Inverter Kit for LED Modules" and "Inverter Kit Led Universal 230V".

The first family includes modules specifically developed for use combined with LED technology devices equipped with drivers with outputs between 10 and 80 V and maximum available power of 100W.The nominal autonomy is independent of the connected LED module and is available from 1 hour and 3 hours.The range offers both models with basic operation, i.e. without diagnostics, and intelligent models equipped with self-diagnosis. Emergency operation is ensured by high temperature lithium batteries equipped with an internal protection circuit to improve their efficiency.

The second family includes modules specially developed for emergency lighting of any LED lighting fixture equipped with 230 V input. The emergency management with this solution provides the same nominal flow of the device. The use of this range is therefore desirable when an ordinary level of lighting is needed even in emergency situations. The full power range is also able to replace the main power supply in case of lack. Emergency operation is ensured by high temperature lithium batteries equipped with an internal protection circuit to improve their efficiency. Models for which high light output is required are supplied exclusively wired in boxes and with appropriate degrees of IP protection.

AUTO-DIAGNOSIS

The ATS rescuers are devices capable capable of powering permanent “Always On” loads both when the network is present and when it is not, and non-permanent “Emergency Only” loads powered only when the network is not present.

They are available both in the basic and the auto-diagnosis version, and are able to carry out operation and autonomy cycle tests, which can be scheduled, to periodically check the correct functioning of the rescuer and/or the booster battery.

They are made up by two important parts:

· INVERTER: capable of generating an alternated sinusoidal tension stabilized with a high frequency PWM control, which powers the load in case of a blackout..• BATTERY CHARGER: battery charger with SCR electronic control (or SWITCHING if low powered) which perfectly charges the battery with a total load cycle followed by a constant voltage maintenance cycle.

1. INTRODUCTION TO EMERGENCY LIGHTING

1. SAFETY LIGHTINGEnsures the safe evacuation of people and the term of hazardous processes underway. It is not a type of lighting that can be used to perform ordinary tasks, but is solely functional to the mobility of people in safety.

2. STANDBY LIGHTINGIt allows normal activities to continue if the main lighting fails for any reason.

3. ANTI-PANIC AREA LIGHTINGIt continues to supply adequate lighting to allow persons to orientate themselves and find the appropriate escape route, without causing panic in process.

4. ESCAPE ROUTE LIGHTINGIt guides people to appropriate exit route and safe exit. It should also highlight fire safety provisions such as Manual Call Points and Portable Fire Extinguishers.

5. HIGH-RISK LIGHTINGIt is used in areas where dangerous processes take place, so person involved can complete a process before evacuating area.

TECHNICAL GUIDE

Emergency Lighting is an essential instrument in guaranteeing the occupants of a home or abuilding, in conjunction with dangerous situations.Luminous signaling is found everywhere: in cinemas, in covered car parks, in the workplace, in public offices, in shopping centers or pedestrian subways. Signaling is internationally comprehensible, and in the case of danger, it indicates the nearest escape route to the outside. Together with a lighting system which is independent from the network, it contributes to safety in a major way.The UNI 1838:2013 regulation defines the illumination engineering requirements of emergency lighting systems, installed in offices or buildings in which such systems are required.

1.1 SAFETY LIGHTING ON ESCAPE ROUTES

Escape routes, such as corridors lined with two walls or evacuation routes to the outside, in places marked off with painted stripes on the ground, that are no bigger than 2 metres, must have a minimum level of lighting, measured on the ground and without reflection, of 1 lux in correspondence with the line identifying the half-way point of the route.Taking such point as the median point along a length which is equal to half of the entire escape route, then a level of illumination equal to 0.5 lux minimum must be guaranteed.

1.2 ANTI-PANIC LIGHTING

The role of anti-panic lighting is to reduce the probability of panic being triggered by providing sufficient lighting to reach an escape route safely (e.g. in crowded halls). For this reason, the anti-panic lighting should give direct downward lighting and show any obstacles of up to two meters above the reference surface.

1.3 HIGH RISK AREAS

Special requirements are foreseen in potentially dangerous work situations or procedures. The safety of staff and all those present requires suitable disabling measures, for example, in the case of:

• machinery in movement/operation• laboratories with dangerous substances• surveillance positions.

A minimum lighting value of 15 lux must be ensured. Strobe lighting effects such as those which may occur in the presence of rotating mechanisms are to be avoided. Lighting devices with electronic reactors exclude strobe lighting effects (flickering).

110 | 111

Page 112: Untitled - HAGOS

The efficiency of an emergency lighting system, as the law itself indicates minimum values, has to be greater in the presence of laws or other specific regulations which discipline safety lighting in particular environments.

2 PROJECT PHASES

2.1 Placement of the devices

To fulfill its function the best possible, which is to guarantee a suitable level of lighting to allow the evacuation of people from a closed area to a safe area, the emergency lighting must be made up of a series of lighting devices, the effect of which must highlight the following positions inside a place:

1 the areas in which there are exit passages and exit doors for evacuation in the case of an emergency;

2 the areas within 2 m in distance (horizontally) from stairways and so that any ramp is directly illuminated;

3 the areas within 2 m in distance (horizontally) from any change in floor level or step;

4 next to any first aid device or equipment (alarm bells, stretchers, first aid boxes, etc.);

5 next to any safety signal;

6 next to any change in direction;

7 next to any fork or intersection; above every exit passage;

8 the areas within 2 m in distance (horizontally) from first aid rooms;

9 next to any fire-fighting device or equipment (alarm bells, extinguishers, fire hoses, etc.);

10 the areas within 2 m in distance (horizontally) from any calling point (telephone) for medical

and or fire-fighting first aid.

Page 118: Untitled - HAGOS

The choice of the type of safety lighting system is crucial during planning and triggers off considerations to be made such as cost and the management of the system itself.

2.2 Choosing the right system

2.2.1 System using basic devices (BS)The use of such devices is recommended for smaller sized systems (< 10 devices).

2.2.2 System using Autodiagnosis devices (AD)The use of such devices is recommended in medium to larger sized systems (< 50 devices).

2.2.3 System with devices equipped with centralised control (CT)The choice of a centralised system is definitely justified for systems with a high number of connected devices (>50).

The direction of escape routes and exits must be recognizable through emergency safety lighting: these vary depending on the concentration of people, the number of floors, the position, the extension and the use of the building, and the systems and fire-fighting compartments. The direction of the evacuation route has to be suitably signaled if it is not immediately visible or if the place is frequented by people how do not know the layout of the area (for example: stairs, corridors, direction changes). Exits which are not immediately visible or are used only in the case of emergency must be signaled. The signs must be easily recognized and positioned in such a way that anyone, from any position, may identify the signaling pictogram.

The signs identifying evacuation routes and exits must be installed in a transversal position compared to the direction to be followed, so that in the case of a fire, the signs are not prematurely covered by smoke and are at least 0,5 m from the ceiling in environments where smoke from a fire may be copious (CIE S020/E).

2.3 Safety

Signaling

The distance from which the safety signaling is deemed visible (or better interpretable), depends both on the size of the pictogram, and the way in which it is illuminated. The distance is defined by the UNI EN 1838 regulation (for illuminated signs) and by the Legislative Decree 493/96 Attachment II art. 1.5.1. (for unlit signals).

Unlit pictogram d = 2000 x A D.Lgs 493/96 A area of pictogram expressed in metres squared. Valid to 50 m.

3. Periodical checks and maintenance

In order to maintain the safety features and performance, it is necessary to periodically carry out checks and maintenance of the lighting system and of the emergency signaling. The initial and periodical tests, the maintenance and the resetting of safety lighting and signaling systems are provided for in the UNI 11222 and UNI EN 50172 (CEI 34-111) Sec. 7.

The periodical checks which involve the safety lighting and signaling systems can be divided into the following types:

· testing of the operation;· testing of the autonomy;· general test.

The testing of the operation concerns the lighting devices and their sources. The following has to be checked:

· the intervention of all the devices, when the ordinary power source fails, andindication of when such power source returns (MONTHLY);

· the integrity and the clearing of devices, and the substitution of damaged or non-functioning components with new ones (MONTHLY);

· the checking of the working of any inhibition system (WEEKLY).

An autonomy test (YEARLY but recommended SIX-MONTHLY) of the working autonomy of the devices/emergency lighting system by interrupting the power source and simulating an emergency situation, and thus checking the autonomy time. Devices checking the effective autonomy of the systems are required (in accordance with UNI 11222) when in certain types of places it is not possible to check visibly.

118 | 119

Page 120: Untitled - HAGOS

The general test refers to the efficiency of the safety devices or the centralized power sources and the satisfaction of the lighting and technical requirements of the project.

For the devices, the following is to be checked:

· the level of lighting in rooms, evacuation routes, etc in respect of the regulations

and applicable laws;

· the safety signaling in relation to the visibility distance;

· the deterioration of the devices and their components;

· the positioning and type of devices installed and their performance with respectto the original project and any integrations to be made.

Every safety lighting system must have a test and maintenance register which can also be in common with other safety plants (fire alarms, etc.). The register is kept by the system manager and must be available to show to any inspection officers.

The register of the periodic tests must be in accordance with the regulations in force and filled in in accordance with point 6.2 of the CEI EN 50172:2006 regulation (pertaining to “Log books”) and it must be long enough to use for numerous logs and many years:

a) the date in which the emergency lighting system first started operating and the technical documentation relative to any modification of the same;

b) the serial number or other identification codes of the safety device; c) the description and characteristics of the automatic control system, if present;

d) the company name, complete address and other identification information of the service technician;

e) the date of every periodic test and the type of test carried out (month/year in the format mm/yy);

f) the date and type of test, maintenance and service carried out;

g) the date and brief description of any defects found and the corrective actioncarried out;

h) the date and brief description of any alteration to the emergency lighting system;

i) the legible signature of the service technician.

After every intervention in accordance with the regulations, a report must be written up in which all the results of the tests carried out must be specified, as well as all the components replaced and the lighting limitations that are needed.
