Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India. Its mission is conceptualized as a movement to enable processes that connect institutes of higher education with local communities to address the developmental challenges of rural India through participatory processes and appropriate technologies for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between the society and an inclusive university system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors. Rural India is home to 70% of the nation's population. The rural population resides mainly in villages — the 2011 census reports roughly 800 million people living in more than 600,000 villages. Although most of rural India's workforce remains primarily involved in agriculture, a cumulative process of diversification through increasing importance of farm allied and non-farm activities has been taking place in recent decades. Rural development implies both the economic betterment of people as well as greater social transformation. Therefore, rural empowerment is the need of the present time, which could be achieved through innovative rural research/technologies, rural development programs and vocational/skilled oriented educational schemes. In order to fulfill the aims of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, rural empowerment is one of the important components. Hence, interfacing the rural people with better prospects for economic development, increased participation of people in the rural development programs, bottom upplanningprocess, better enforcement of land reforms and greater access to credit is essential steps for rural empowerments “The rural empowerment is the main theme of the seminar.”
