Science Requirements

If a Georgia private high school or non-Georgia public school only offers physical science in the 8th grade, can a student use that credit to satisfy the RHSC?

Yes. Students enrolled in Georgia private high schools and high schools in other states often complete physical science while in the 8th grade. As a result, students from private high schools and public high schools in other states can count physical science courses taken in the 8th grade as one of the 4 required science units.

Students who test below the System minimum scores on the COMPASS exam in one or more areas of learning support are not eligible for admission:Reading – 62 English – 32 Math - 20

Placement Testing and Admissions

Students who test into all three areas of learning support are not eligible for admission.Reading – 74 English – 60 Math - 37

HSGT-ELA results can be used to exempt learning support placement testing (minimum score of 235) – be sure you send a student’s test results on the transcript to avoid unnecessary LS testing and placement!

Students who submit SAT/ACT test scores sufficient to exempt learning support are exempt from placement testing.

Lawful Presence

October 2010, the Board of Regents approved two new policies which went into effect Fall 2011:

Policy 4.1.6

A person who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible for admission to any University System institution which, for the two most recent academic years, did not admit all academically qualified applicants (except for cases in which applicants were rejected for non-academic reasons).

The following institutions currently fall under 4.1.6:

Policy 4.3.4

Each University System institution shall verify the lawful presence in the United States of every successfully admitted person applying for resident tuition status, as defined in Section 7.3 of this Policy Manual, and of every person admitted to an institution referenced in Section 4.1.6 of this Policy Manual.

Policy 4.3.4 only impacts those students applying for in-state tuition.
