    PGAT 2018M.A.

  • From The Principal’s Desk.......

    Dr. (Mrs.) Yusufa Nafees

A new chapter was added to the history of Hamidia Girls' Degree College in July 2016 whenUniversity of Allahabad sanctioned post graduate courses to the college. Our college got theopportunity to start M.A. in five subjects- Urdu, Education, English Literature, Medieval Historyand Sociology on self- financed basis. Thereafter teaching started in Urdu, English, History andSociology under theChoiceBasedCredit System- (CBCSpattern).

The college since its inception has been striving hard to extend quality education to the girlstudents of the densely populated, under privileged minority concentrated area. It was the vision ofthe founders to ensure the access of higher education to women. From 1975 onwards, the college ismaking rigorous efforts and is successfully progressing in this direction. Presently, it is renderinghigher education in three faculties – Faculty of Arts, Commerce and Vocations. Approximately,2000 girls are enrolled in B.A., B.Com. and B.Voc. The introduction of post graduate courses willtake the college to greater heights opening newavenues of higher education and research. It has alsofulfilled the dreams of those aspirantswho lost their hopes for further studies.

The college is maintaining an ambience of co-operation and teamwork amidst management, staff members, students, alumni, university authorities and other stakeholders of the college.Besides conventional education, the college focuses on the skill development of young learners tofill the skill gap and make the students employable and self reliant. The college is committed to theintegrated development of the students. Keeping the holistic approach in mind, student-centricextracurricular activities, seminars, symposium, training programmes are a regular feature of theacademic programmes. The college is striving hard to inculcatemoral and ethical sensitivity so thatthe students may become conscious citizens of the nation and the world. It is a unique icon ofmodernity and traditions.

It is my pleasure to announce the beginning of the new session to the new batch. The brochureand the application forms are in the hands of the aspirants with the hope that the girls havinggraduate degree will avail the opportunity. It is my earnest appeal to them to be regular and sincereand prove their worth by hard, persistent efforts and progress towards research in the future. I wishsuccess to all the new entrants.

Institutes of Higher Education (IHE's) must take into account two important objectives- equityand wide access. Keeping this objective in mind, the college is providing skill based qualityeducation to a large section of the under-served section of women. Approximately 2000 girls' areenrolled in the college and out of these a sizeable number of students belong to the marginalizedsection having little or no access to higher education. The college thus considers its primary duty toremain accessible to all. It has maintained an exceptionally nominal fee structure. The of thecollege is – .

Education is meaningless if it does not uplift communities and provide them viable avenues ofsustainable development. In its bid to extend standard vocational education to students and createavenues of gainful employment, the College strove and was the first among the 11 colleges of theUniversity to be sanctioned two(02) vocational subjects – Office Management & SecretarialPractices and Computer Application in Social Sciences by the U.G.C. under its IX Plan. Later onadd-on vocational diploma courses of Fashion Designing, Urdu Journalism and MassCommunication andTranslation Proficiency inArabic were granted to the college byU.G.C. in theX Plan. In the XI Plan the emerging discipline ofWomen's Studies was attended to and the Collegewas sanctioned aCentre forWomen's Studies in 2009. It is working on twokey areas – spreading

legal literacy and improving women's health. In the on-going XII Plan, the College has been

sanctioned B.Voc. in two(02) trades – Journalism andMassCommunication& FashionDesign andEmbroidery. Thus a Faculty ofVocations has been added at the College.
