• UMR, established in 1871 as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, has a long tradition as the leading university in the state for education in engineering and related sciences.

UMR Technology Park - Initial Steps
• UM Board of Curators approved UMR’s plan to develop a research and technology park on April 6, 2007
• Keith Strassner, Director of UMR’s Office of Technology Commercialization and Economic Development is currently:
– developing a comprehensive master plan with broad community input
– establishing restrictive covenants to guide future development
– creating a marketing and finance plan
Design Overview
• Design with:– a campus like atmosphere– green space, walking and bike trails in
conjunction with the City, water features• Phased development of the site
– 56 acres, potential for 600,000 ft2 of buildings • University and Private facilities
– research and development focus– target companies and organizations related to

• identifies DOD needs with respect to research and development by participating in technology meetings at FLW and other federal research laboratories, and by maintaining contact with appropriate FLW personnel;
• works closely with UMR research centers and departments to match the research interests of faculty with DOD requirements;
• develops umbrella agreements such as CRADAs and MOUs with the DOD where appropriate; and
• organizes periodic meetings to report on ongoing collaborative research projects and discussion of future DOD requirements.
