The University has recruited a team of work placement co-ordinators to ensure that companies are provided with introductions to high-quality students in relevant disciplines. The co-ordinators will also support companies in promoting opportunities and help Exeter students to successfully complete their placements. We are currently looking to identify employers and other organisations that would be able to provide work placements regionally, nationally and internationally. The work placements could take a number of forms including: • Work-shadowing (1 week) • Short placements (2 weeks +) • Academically supervised student projects (flexible timing) • Vacation placements/internships (13 weeks max) • Industrial placements (6-12 months max) • Graduate placements/projects (8 weeks to 1 year) And of course we are always interested in graduate vacancies which we will advertise free on our jobsurfing website. Full details available at www.exeter.ac.uk/business/talent The International Dimension As businesses are increasingly recruiting globally, students who are able to gain international work experience put themselves ahead of the pack in the increasingly competitive job market. Recent research by The Council for Industry and Higher Education found that 65% of employers believe graduates with international work experience are more employable. “Graduates who have international experience are highly employable because they have demonstrated that they have drive, resilience and inter-cultural sensitivities as well as language skills. They are a self-selecting elite.” (CIHE Report 2008, Global Horizons and the Role of Employers) Ben Griffiths undertook an eight week placement at ReZolve in Cornwall “We find overseas students bring interesting insights and experiences – they have different ways of looking at things which we like and we have benefited from the different skills they have brought.” MD Audata Ltd, Kent
