Welcome to the 2012-2013 Season!

Dear Blue Hen Friends and Family :

Welcome to another exciting season with the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hen Hockey program! We are glad that you have joined us for another exciting season of the fastest game on campus! We value you – our family, fans, and supporters – because you encourage and challenge us to be the elite hockey program in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA.).

Last season was a year of firsts! We completed the inaugural season of our ACHA Men’s Division II team,

which made huge strides throughout the season in building a winning spirit! They certainly look to build on

the positive momentum from the end of the season! It was also a first for the Men’s Division I team as they

captured its first ACHA Division I National Title in program history! Both programs look to move forward in

continuing that winning tradition. Our team has bolstered its leadership with senior team captain Connor

Moore, and alternate captains seniors Ryan McDonald, Vincent Pontrello, and junior Michael Piet. We have

also brought in a fine group of freshman that will assist in the title challenge for this season, and seasons to

come! Our team of managers, booster club members, and athletic training and support staff are the backbone

of this program and we would not have success on and off the ice without them.

As we begin this season, we look to our future in title defense without forgetting our great past. Our program

celebrates its 40th anniversary at the ACHA Men’s Division I level, our 10th year at the ACHA Women’s

Division II level, our 2nd season at the ACHA Men’s Division II level and our inaugural season at the ACHA

Men’s Division III level. As a program, with the help of the best fans in the country, we will continue to bring

you the fastest game on campus while making a more positive presence on campus and within the

surrounding Newark community.

We would like to thank our alumni, club members, family, friends, and fans who have made these forty years a

Mark Your Calendar… UD to Host Championship Tournaments!

UD to Host ESCHL Conference Championship

Tournament February 15-17, 2013 The University of Delaware will play host to the 2013 Eastern States

Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL) Conference Championship

Tournament February 15-17, 2013 at the UD Ice Arenas. The ESCHL is

made up of five American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men’s

Division I teams in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. The league

playoffs will determine the top four teams which will qualify for the playoffs, with the ESCHL Conference

Champion receiving an automatic bid to the ACHA Men’s Division I National Tournament which is scheduled to

be held in Bensenville, IL March 1-5.

University of Delaware to Host National ACHA Hockey Championships in 2014 The University of Delaware will again host the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) National Men’s

and Women’s Championships in 2014. The 2014 Men’s Division I Championship will be held February 29 to

March 5, 2014 and the Women’s Division I and Division II National

Championships will be held March 6-10, 2014.

The University of Delaware Hockey programs and the UD

community are pleased to once again welcome the ACHA

tournament. Hoping to build on the successful 2011 championship

tournament held in Newark and with the addition of the Women’s

tournaments, UD will have an opportunity to highlight the

university programs as well as show-off the surrounding

community.

Both tournaments will be held at the University of Delaware’s Fred Rust Arena and the Gold Ice Arena. The

single elimination men’s tournament will consist of 20 teams, each made up of 20-25 players. The Women’s

Division I tournament takes the top eight teams and splits them into two pools that eventually meet in the

championship round. The Women’s Division II tournament also uses a round-robin format for the preliminary

round. A total of 16 women’s teams participate.

Men's Division I Coaching Staff

M. F. Schurman - Head Coach, ACHA Men’s Division I Team "2012 ACHA Men's Division I Coach of the Year" A native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada, M.F. Played Junior “A” in his home town, going on to Mount Allison University for 2 years before embarking on an 8 year professional career that included a stop in Hartford of the NHL. The highlights of M.F’s pro career include playing on a line with boyhood idol Gordie Howe with the Hartford Whalers in the 1979-80 season. He also played on championship teams with the AHL Maine Mariners in 1978-79 and 1983-84, and the WIHL Spokane Flyers in 1977-78. M.F. was a midseason all star selection in the IHL in

1978-79, scoring the winning goal for the North team in the all-star game and the CHL in 1982-83. M.F. began his coaching career as an assistant Coach at the University of Prince Edward Island. After moving to San Diego, Coach Schurman was instrumental in starting Tier hockey in the San Diego area, taking the Midget Tier II team to the USA Hockey National Championship Tournament in 1995. M.F. was Director of Coaches for the San Diego Gulls Amateur Hockey Club and filled in as Interim Coach of the Pro San Diego Gulls of the WCHL on a number of occasions. In 2001 Schurman founded the San Diego Surf Junior “A” hockey team and was its owner, General Manager and head Coach from the 2001-02 season through the 2007-08 season. During the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons Schurman coached the Philadelphia Little Flyers Junior “A” team in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League. M.F. has been teaching hockey skills and power skating for more than 30 years. During this time he has worked with all levels from beginners through professional players.

Nick Matarese – Assistant Coach / Goalie Coach Former Blue Hen goalie Nick Matarese returns for his fifth season as the University of Delaware’s Men's Division I goalie coach along with other assistant duties. Nick played four years for the University of Delaware and was one of the netminders in both the 2007 and 2008 ACHA final four appearances posted by the Blue Hens. During high school and college he trained with and was an instructor at the Tim Ondra Elite Goaltending Training Center and brings this knowledge and experience of both on- and off-ice training to the Blue Hen goalies. A self-employed graphic designer, Nick and his wife, Jenn, reside in Hockessin, Delaware.

Men's Division I Coaching Staff

Jesse McNulty – Assistant Coach McNulty returns for his third year as Assistant Coach for the Blue Hen men’s hockey program. McNulty, a 2005 University of Delaware graduate with a B.S. in Engineering was previously an Assistant Coach at Salesianum School (Del.) from 2008-2010 and at Caravel Academy (Del.) for the 2007-2008 season. At Salesianum and Caravel, he helped prepare and execute training and practice plans and worked with both forwards and defensemen and developed in-game goaltending reports and an off-ice performance tracking database. McNulty also coached with Salesianum in the Delaware High School hockey summer program as well as other youth camps and training programs

throughout Delaware. In addition to his Assistant Coaching responsibilities, Coach McNulty is responsible for overseeing the off-ice training program and coordinating the team’s season in-game data analysis. McNulty is a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach. He and his wife Angela reside in Newark, Delaware.

John O’Connor - Assistant Coach Coach O’Connor is in his 16th season as an Assistant Coach for the University of Delaware Men’s Ice Hockey team. He has held various positions on the coaching staff including Head Coach for the Blue Hens in 2003. Coach O’Connor was inducted into the University of Delaware Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008. A Pennsylvania native who graduated from Penn State with a degree in business management, Coach O’Connor was an integral part of the PSU hockey team’s 1989 ICHL Championship and 1990 National Championship. He is a Vice President at JPMorgan Chase in Wilmington and resides in Newark with his

wife Elizabeth and children Jack, Garrett, and Lindsey.

Kyle Curley - Team Manager Kyle is a senior Sports Management major from Media, PA. Kyle was a three-year letterman of

the UD Division I Men's Hockey team and was a member of the 2012 National Championship

squad.

2011-2012 Season Recap UD Hockey Reflects Back Upon Yet Another Successful Season

UD Hockey Wins Its First ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship The Fightin’ Blue Hens capped off a historic season this past year with a 5-1 victory over Oakland University to win its first ACHA Division I National Championship in the team's 39 year history. A lot happens between the final buzzer of the season in March 2012 and when training camp began over seven months earlier. Despite

what the record showed, the team did have its ups and downs and showed a lot of adversity through various challenges that arose throughout the season. The team started off the season 16-0-1 with their only loss coming in Overtime to Arizona State University at the ACHA showcase in Springfield, Illinois in early October. With a 2-0 win over Illinois and a statement 6-1 win over Ohio, the Blue Hens gained respect throughout the league after the showcase. In November, the team came up with a big home win against rival Penn State in front of a roaring Fred Rust Arena. The Hens would suffer their first regular season loss to the Icer’s when they traveled to Happy Valley the next evening. The team rebounded from the loss with Delaware winning the

next 9 games until experiencing a splitting with the University of Rhode Island (URI) at the end of January. Delaware finished first in the ESCHL standings with 99 points, which was 35 points ahead of second place URI and also had 5 less games played. However when it came to league playoffs the Hens came out with a very disappointing performance suffering a bad loss in the semi finals and were sent home early. But Delaware knew there were bigger things ahead. Between the coaching and the veteran leadership, the Hens got right back to work towards the ultimate goal. The much needed week off from scheduled games after league playoffs gave fatigued and injured bodies a chance to heal and for the team to prepare to take on the best teams the ACHA had to offer. The team entered Cleveland, Ohio with a true confidence. They entered the tournament as the #3 seed. Delaware took out #14 Davenport in the first round winning 3-1. The next game would be the team’s biggest challenge of the tournament taking on #6 Ohio. This game was a thriller with each team trading goals the entire game. An first overtime went by with great scoring chances for each team, all being denied. Shortly into the second overtime the Hens finally got the winner, which would send them to the semi finals winning 5-4 over the Bobcats. This was Delaware’s chance to avenge their loss in the semi finals the previous year against #2 Lindenwood University. However, this time it would be the Blue Hens who would come out on top controlling the game and winning 6-3. The #13 seed Oakland seemed to be the Cinderella story of the tournament knocking off the top[ranked Penn State in the semi finals. Delaware would make it clear that they would not be the next victim and played hard from the drop of the puck. When the final buzzer went off the scoreboard read UD 5 – Oakland 1 and the bench cleared and the fans went wild, as the University of Delaware had won their first national championship in the school's history.


M.F. Schurman named ACHA Men’s Division I National Coach of the Year

The 2012 American Collegiate Hockey Association [ACHA] Men's Division I Coach-of-the-Year Award, presented by Harrow Sports, was awarded to M.F. Schurman of the University of Delaware, as selected by the Head Coaches of ACHA Men's Division I. This is the first ACHA Men's Division I Coach-of-the-Year Award for M.F and the second for the University of Delaware, which also won in 2000-2001 with Josh Brandwene at the helm.

The other finalists for the ACHA Men's Division 1 Coach-of-the-Year Award were: Jeremy Bachusz, Oakland University Greg Powers, Arizona State University Rick Zombo, Lindenwood University

M.F. was presented with the ACHA Men's Division I Coach-of-the-Year Award at the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach-of-the-Year Celebration held on April 28, 2012 in Naples, Florida. The 2011-12 season was a crowning achievement for M.F. Schurman and his University of Delaware Blue Hens, including: winning the 2012 ACHA Men's Division I National Championship for the first time in team history; winning the Regular Season Championship of the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL) with a 15-1-0 record and being named ESCHL Coach-of-the-Year; a 34-3-1 overall record including 12 and 9-game winning streaks and a 24-1-1 start to the season; posting a 9-1-1 record against the Top 10, including wins over #2 Oakland, #3 Penn State, #4 Lindenwood, #5 Ohio, #9 Arizona State, and #10 Liberty, as well as victories over seven other Top 25 ranked teams (Illinois, Davenport, West Virginia, Rutgers, Stony Brook, Rhode Island, and West Chester); playing 32 of its 38 games against Top 25 teams and claiming a 28-3-1 record in those games; peaking as the #2 ranked team for the final 7 rankings of the season; and a win over Davenport University, the 2010-2011 Men’s Division I National Champions and Davenport’s first loss at a National Tournament since 2007. “This year at our first team meeting in the fall,” M.F. pronounced, “all we talked about was winning the last game of the year,” clearly a reference to winning a National Championship. M.F. credits his players and assistant coaches for the team's success in achieving that goal. “We had a motivated group of upperclassmen that showed great leadership, especially our Captains. We also had depth which created peer pressure and competition for playing time. Assistant Coaches Jesse McNulty, Jordan Legath, John O’Connor, and Nick Matarese were instrumental in implementing the system. We were particularly proud of the defensive side of our game which produced a team goals-against-average of 2.17! I really enjoy coaching this level and find a tremendous amount of youthful energy being on a college campus.”


Many people say of their jobs, they like them so much that they would be willing to do them for free, so it is fitting that Schurman and his entire staff are volunteer coaches at the University of Delaware. In May of 2010, M.F. took over as Head Coach of the University of Delaware Blue Hens. Having coached Junior Hockey for the previous 10 years it was a welcome change for M.F. After failing to qualify for the National Tournament in 2009-2010 season, the Blue Hens opened the 2010-2011 season ranked number 15, moving as high as number 3 before settling in at number 5 in the final ranking of the season. That was good enough to qualify in the upper echelon of the 16-team field at the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships, where the host Blue Hens made it to the National Semifinals before losing to the eventual National Runners-Up from Lindenwood.

UD Goalie S.J. Broadt named 2012 ACHA Men’s Division I Player-of-the-Year In May, 2012, the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) named University of Delaware goalie S.J. Broadt the ACHA Men's Division 1 Player-of-the-Year for 2012. S.J. was selected by the Head Coaches of ACHA Men's Division.

The other finalist for the Men's Division Player-of-the-Year Award were"

#12 - Michael Macari, Forward, University of Michigan-Dearborn

#27 - Ryan Bachman, Forward, Adrian College

#10 - Michael Schultz, Forward, Ohio University

S.J., a junior from Marlton, NJ, became the first Blue Hens player in school history to be honored with this award after an outstanding 2011-2012 season, compiling a 29-2-1 record with a 2.03 GAA, 6 shutouts, and a 93.0 save percentage. S.J. led the entire ACHA statistically in both wins and shutouts, while his minutes played and save percentage were second overall.

In the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL), S.J. led the Blue Hens to the regular season championship with a dazzling 15-1-0 record and was named the ESCHL's Most Valuable Player and First Team All-League.

Capping off the season, S.J. carried the University of Delaware to its first ACHA Men's Division I National Championship, with a 5-1 win over Oakland University in the division final. For his efforts, S.J. was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

S.J. was also selected to participate in the 5th Annual ACHA Men's Division I All-Star Game but was unable to attend due to a broken bone in his foot.

Over his three-year career as a UD Hockey Blue Hen, S.J. has put together an impressive 2.01 GAA, 11 shutouts, and a .924 save percentage. During the 2010-2011 season, S.J. was awarded 2nd Team All-Tournament at the Men's Division I National Championship and 1st Team All-League in the ESCHL.

Four UD Hockey Players Selected for 2012 ACHA Men's Division I All-Star Game The 5th Annual American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division I All-Star Game took place on March 17, 2012 at the Gilmour Academy Athletic Center in Gates Mills, OH. Forty of the top Men's Division 1 players converged on Ohio for this event. The roster included four UD Hockey Blue Hens:

Women's Division II Coaching Staff

Bobby Crystle - Head Coach Bobby Crystle signed on with the Lady Blue Hens in 2007. He first served as the team goalie coach, helping the Hens win the DVCHC 2007-2008 Championship title and earn its first bid to nationals. He accepted the offer for the head coaching position in 2010 and has served the team in this capacity ever since, leading the Lady Blue Hens to two consecutive National Tournament appearances. For the 2012-2013 season, Crystle is serving on both the ACHA Women’s Division II competition and tournament committees. Crystle, a Delaware native, graduated from Salesianum in 2003 and University of Delaware in 2010. He has been involved with USA Hockey for over eighteen years as a

referee, player, and coach. He is a USA Hockey Level 3 Coach and Level 3 referee. In his free time, Crystle trains as both a defenseman and goaltender. He also referees at the youth, high school, and college levels, and enjoys spending time with his dogs, Lily and Frank.

Andrew Corlett - Assistant Coach / Goalie Coach Andrew is entering his fourth year as the University of Delaware Women’s Division II goalie coach along with other assistant duties. A native of Wilmington, DE and graduate of Salesianum in 2005, Andrew has always been a student of the position. He has studied under NHL goalie Dan Bouchard to initially learn the position fifteen years ago. After a short stint with GDI (Goaltender Development Institute), he more recently was mentored by Tim Ondra to hone his coaching skills.

Ken Deming - Assistant Coach Ken is originally from Bellevue, Ohio and attended IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) where he played three years for the Crimson Hawks ACHA Division II hockey team. After graduation, Ken served six years in the United States Marine Corps and is a Desert Storm Veteran. Ken continues to be involved in the Delaware local hockey organizations which includes being a Level 3 referee. Ken works for Singer Equipment, the sixth largest equipment dealer in the United States, as a Project Manager and in Business Development. Ken lives in Smyrna, Delaware.

Women's Division II Coaching Staff

Brett Wienke - Assistant Coach Originally from Holliston, MA, Brett is entering his third season as an assistant coach and is a 2010 graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Brett will be helping out the team on a part time basis this season as he focuses on earning his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University.

Scott Panchisin - Assistant Goalie Coach A native of Wilmington, DE, Scott is entering his first full season as an assistant coach after helping out part time in the 2011-2012 season. He was 2006 graduate of Salesianum High School, where he was a four year starting goalie, and a 2010 graduate from Western New England College in Springfield, MA

Highlights of the 2011-2012 Season

The UD Women's Division II Hockey team recorded had another successful season in 2011-2012. The Lady Blue Hens completed the regular season with an outstanding 12-0-1 record, winning the DVCHC Regular Season Championship with the overall season record of 14-2-1.

The Women's Division II Blue Hens championship season also included:

Scoring 70 goals while only allowing 16 goals by their opponents

Consistently ranked 1st in the East during all four rankings throughout the year

Earning its 3rd straight trip to the National Championship

Finished 3rd in the nation at the National Championship Individual players notable highlights:

Men's Division II Coaching Staff

Vince Falkowski - Head Coach

In 2011, Coach Falkowski was named the first men's hockey coach for a newly formed University of Delaware ACHA Division II team. In 2009 and 2010, Vince served on the coaching staff at Salesianum High School (DE) for both the in-season and summer program. Vince has also served the University of Delaware community as both a coach and mentor for the Learn to Play Hockey and Cross-Ice youth programs in the Newark community. Vince took over the Division II program in 2011 during its inaugural season as a team where they competed in the North division of the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey

Association (MACHA.) The UD ACHA-DII program played a 25-game schedule, with its home games at the University of Delaware's Gold Ice Arena. Coach Falkowski graduated from the University of Delaware in 1999 with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science and was also a member of the University of Delaware Division I hockey team from 1997 to 1999 as a Defenseman. Coach lives in the Newark, Delaware area with his wife Jen, their two sons and one daughter.

Bob Stroik - Assistant Coach Bob has been a member of the Delaware Ice Hockey community since taking "learn to skate" lessons at UD in 1981. A Newark native, he played several years of youth hockey for the predecessor to the Junior Blue Hens organization, before moving on to play Junior hockey where he and Coach Falkowski were teammates. Bob was a member of the University of Delaware Division I Ice Hockey team from 1993 to 1997 as a Forward, where he and Coach Falkowski re-united again for the 1996-1997 season. Bob graduated from the University of Delaware in 1998 with a major in Geophysics and a minor in Civil Engineering. He works at Aberdeen Proving Ground for the Army Institute of Public Health in the Environmental Health Engineering Portfolio.

Bob lives in Elkton, Maryland with his wife, Noelle, and his son and daughter.

Andrew Keiser - Team Manager A sophomore Sports Management major at the University of Delaware, Andrew begins his first year as the Team Manager for the UD Men's Division II Blue Hens. Andrew recently completed a management intern position with the UD Men's Baseball team during the 2011-2012 season.

Men's Division III Coaching Staff

Chris Galgano - Head Coach Coach Galgano, a 2011 graduate of the University of Delaware, is originally from Valley Stream, NY and came to hockey prominence in the New York Bobcats (AJHL) junior program before his years as a four-year defenseman and one-year assistant captain. Coach Galgano also help lead UD Hockey to its first American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I National Title in program history. Brandon Weiner - Head Coach Coach Weiner is a 2010 graduate of the University of Delaware as well as a four-year defenseman, and two-year captain of the UD Hockey team, and helped lead UD Hockey to the Frozen Four in 2011. Prior to his time at UD, Coach Weiner was an up and coming player through the New Jersey junior programs before completing his secondary schooling and hockey at the renowned Lawrenceville School (NJ).

Blue Hen Hockey Athletic Training Staff

Andrew DePietropaolo, ATC, Certified Athletic Trainer A 2011 University of Delaware graduate, Andrew enters his first season as a Certified Athletic Trainer for the University of Delaware Men's Club Ice Hockey team. His student athletic training experiences at UD included working with the Football team, Men's and Women's Lacrosse teams, as well as 3 years of work with the Ice Hockey team. Andrew served as a Seasonal Athletic Training Intern for the Green Bay

Packers during the 2011-12 season, as well as a Training Camp Intern Athletic Trainer for the previous two years.

Andrew has returned to the University of Delaware to pursue a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, and plans to graduate in 2014. He is an active member of the National

Athletic Trainers Association, Delaware Athletic Trainers Association, and holds experience and certifications

in Kinesiotaping and the Functional Movement System techniques. Andrew is very excited to rejoin the team, and looks forward to a successful year.

Kiefer J. Gooch – Athletic Training Student, Pre-Physical Therapy Kiefer is a graduate athletic training student currently working with the University of Delaware Men's Ice Hockey Team. He is the president of the UD student Athletic Trainers Club and was recently accepted into the UD Physical Therapy Department's Class of 2014. During the previous two summers, he interned in the National Football League with the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins. This is Kiefer's second season with the UD Hockey Team.

Harrison Grube – Athletic Training Student Harrison is a graduate Athletic Training Student from Hockessin, DE currently working with the UD Men's Ice Hockey Team. Harrison was a summer intern in the National Football League (NFL) for the Seattle Seahawks and received the Lee J. Hyncik Athletic Training Achievement Award in the fall of 2010. His future plans include working as a year-long intern for the Seattle Seahawks or attending Physician Assistant School.

Blue Hen Hockey Support Staff

Joe Backer – Broadcast Announcer An avid sports fan, Joe Backer is now in his third year as the "Voice of Blue Hen Hockey!" Joe is a graduate of the University of Delaware and worked in the broadcasting industry for about 20 years. He originally became involved in UD Ice Hockey while in college in the 70s and broadcast UD ice hockey on the campus radio station. Years later he was part of the crew that webcast the games via the internet. Joe and his wife and son live near Newark and often attend a variety of UD sporting events.

Seth Tolbert – Broadcast Announcer A life-long hockey fan, Seth returns for his third year as color analyst for the Blue Hen’s online broadcasts. From Wilmington, Seth enjoys many hobbies and activities, but none more than sharing his love of skating and hockey with his son here at the Fred Rust Ice Arena.

Bill Williams – Public Address (PA) Announcer & Official Scorer Bill starts his third year as the PA Announcer for the UD Fighting Blue Hens DI Ice Hockey team. Having been recently accepted into the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers (NASPAA,) Bill is looking forward to being the arena voice for the new DII Blue Hens. Bill is no stranger to UD Ice Hockey. He attended his first game in 1984 and has only missed three home games in 27 years. On any given weekend night, he could usually be heard banging his mallet as a member of the Red Line Rowdies and attends many road games to support the Hens. He introduced his oldest daughter to UD ice hockey at the age of 3 months and now is very proud to work with both his daughters in the booth.

Bill graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 1982 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration. He returned to school and graduated in 1998 from Wilmington University with a Masters of Elementary Education Degree. Bill resides in the Newark, Delaware area.

Blue Hen Hockey Support Staff

Nick Purse – Timekeeper, Score Box Nick grew up at the UD Ice Rink, coming with his family since he was 8 years old to support Blue Hen Ice Hockey. Nick, now 14, is the youngest member of the off-ice game day team and is beginning his second season in the score box where he runs music or the clock.

Nicole Williams – Broadcast Announcer Nicole is a senior in college and attended the University of Delaware last before transferring to Del-Tech and where she is majoring in Biological Sciences. Nicole came to watch some hockey games while she was in high school. Once she began college, that's when she started helping out with the team by running the scoreboard or playing music. During the games you can find her sitting in the scorer’s box or running around the arena. She loves this team and knows that they will do great this season!

Stephanie Cavender – Broadcast Announcer Stephanie has been attending University of Delaware ice hockey games since 1988. When she was about 3 months old, her father brought her to her first UD ice hockey practice and she has been attending games ever since. Stephanie was the youngest member of the Red Line Rowdies before beginning to work for the team in 2006 as a freshman at UD. During this time, she began the Chuck-A-Puck tradition at the home games that continues today. Stephanie remained in charge of fundraising until the

Booster Club was formed. Today, she spends most of her time running the scoreboard during home games, but can be seen doing other tasks that are necessary to help the game run smoothly

UD On-Campus Ice Arenas

The University of Delaware is the home of two ice arenas – the Fred Rust Arena and the Gold Arena. The Fred Rust Arena is a multi-purpose arena on the campus of the University of Delaware. The facility was built in 1988 and houses the Olympic-sized ice area, seating for 2,500 spectators, a VIP lounge, the Crystal Sports Pro Shop, locker rooms, weight and fitness facility, and a concession area.

The Gold Arena is the NHL-sized ice sheet and was constructed in 1971. The Gold Arena sits adjacent to the Fred Rust on the UD campus. The facilities are home to the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens men’s ice hockey teams which compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I level of the Eastern State Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHA) and Division II level of the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHL.)
