UCTM is a state university that is accredited with the highest mark in Bulgaria. UCTM operates on the principle of academic autonomy under the Higher Education Act and the internal regulations that are the basis for implementing the priorities of the European Higher Education Area. The university educates more than 4,000 students annually in the three qualification degrees Bachelor, Master and Doctor in regular and part-time. In addition, we issue graduates engineers European diploma supplement. The university maintains a long-term cooperation with many foreign universities on joint projects, training programs and exchange of students and teachers.

Credits recognizing is made by a special commission which compare the programs and take a decision. Rights to registered the credits from other university are delegated to Dean of the faculty. Students are allowed to continue their studies, but has to follow the missed subjects from previous year on an individual plan.

UCTM has 4 residential blocks in the Students’ town 10 minutes away from the university campus by bus and 20 minutes away walking. UCTM offers accommodation to all full-time students.Fully refurnished, the accommodation offers optimal environment for living and preparation. The rooms are cozy and well equipped with central heating.

Graduated students can implement technological functions, technical design and management activities in all branches of the economy, where biotechnological transformation of substances are realized, including biotechnology, chemical, pharmaceutical, metallurgical, food industry and agriculture and synthesis of new materials. Their wide engineering, chemical and biological training and in line with the new economic development of the country, these specialists are in high demand in large companies and small private companies.

Students graduated in "Biotechnology" specialty of UCTM can also continue their educations in the following degrees. Our students have found new jobs in prestigious companies at home and abroad. Some of them are:-BIOVET, Peshtera-Sopharma AD Sofia-Aroma AD, Sofia-Global Test Ltd., Sofia-Danone - Serdica AD- National Food control agency-Bulgarian Academy of Science

Since 2007 and currently «Biotechnology» specialty of UCTM participate in a significant number of bilateral agreements with Greece, Germany, Portugal, UK, Romania, France, Italy and Spain under the ERASMUS program. Thanks to them, provides an opportunity for students of «Biotechnology» specialty to prepare their internships and thesis as ERASMUS students.

The aim of education in "Bachelor“ degree in "Biomedical Engineering" in UCTM is that students obtain comprehensive training on applications, combining engineering education in the diagnosis and monitoring in medical practice. In the training process they take the wide-theoretical and practical skills related to chemical engineering and biological fundamentals, but also carrying out professional and independent work by studying specialized courses, practical training and thesis.

Graduated students in "Biomedical Engineering“ realize out-tech manufacturing activities associated with diagnostic kits preparing, analytical control functions and management activities in companies for medical and diagnostic equipment monitoring, analysis and maintenance of medical equipment in large hospitals and clinics, as well as smaller one, including private hospitals.

Scientific interests and studies of Biotechnology department staff are related to:- Fermentation Biotechnology;- Organic waste treatment;- Renewable energy;- Biotransformation and enzymatic synthesis for the preparation of biologically active substances;- Biosensors and biosensor techniques;- Synthesis of new inhibitors of the enzyme systems with application in medicine and diagnostics;- Study of the kinetics of enzymatic reactions;-New materials.All students are involved in the scientific work of academic staff as a part of projects and they participate in many scientific conferences during their education.

The aim of education in "Bachelor“ degree in "Bioenergy technologies and bioproducts" in UCTM is students to acquire knowledge, skills and competences in the field of processing of energy resources on the basis of plant biomass, renewable fuels and biomaterials as biocomposites, porous carbon materials, fibre board, polymers from renewable sources, etc. Students develop knowledge and skills for utilization of renewable raw materials (bioalkohol, biogas, solid fuels, biopolymers, etc.) as well as how to trade with them.
