Reporting of Grades Students can self-report their grades for conditional acceptance

IB Credit Information IB minimum score of 24. Students with a score of 30 or higher will receive 30 hours of university credit. Students who do not possess the IB diploma will be given individual credit for IB courses completed at the higher level with grades 5, 6, or 7. AP Credit Information An official AP transcript is required for evaluation process. Credit is awarded at grades 3, 4, 5 which is course specific. A maximum of 30 credit hours is awarded.

English Proficiency Requirements

TOEFL: 90 (IBT) 580 (PBT) CBT (237), IELTS: 6.5, CAEL: 70 Students who do not meet the English Proficiency Requirements may take our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to then bridge into their undergraduate degree. RESIDENCE INFORMATION

Residence Options 11 residence buildings ranging in size from 74-264 residents. Each residence is centrally located on campus within minutes of classrooms, laboratories, and student centers. Residence offers a mix of double rooms, basic and deluxe single rooms and suites. Special interest sections and residences include Women only, upper years, alcohol free and quiet.

IB Credit Information A year of advanced credit and a renewable entrance scholarship are offered to students who obtain the full IB Diploma with a final score of 28 or higher.

AP Credit Information Credit is available for AP courses with a final grade of 4 or 5.

English Proficiency Requirements

TOEFL: Unless at least one year of full-time studies have been completed in English, we require proof of proficiency in English, such as a TOEFL score. We expect a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper based), 237 (computer based), or 90 (Internet based). A minimum of 85 is normally required for M.E.L.A.B. and 6.5 for I.E.L.T.S. In the absence of English proficiency proofs you may be denied admission (text deleted here).

For students who are below the minimum English proficiency requirements, Bishop’s offers a 30-credit certificate in English as a Second Language. This program can be started in the fall (September) semester or the winter (January) semester. Admission can be requested via the online application at www.gobishops.ca.

RESIDENCE INFORMATION

Residence Options Fully furnished single rooms are available in ‘Bog Style’, ‘Condo Style’ and ‘Traditional’ residences. A virtual tour at www.gobishops.ca provides videos of all the residence buildings including rooms, common areas, recreational facilities and services.

Students must apply to the university by March 1 to be considered for the entrance scholarship program. No application is required. Students can fill out an application, however, for numerous financial awards and bursaries. An e-mail will be sent to all admitted applicants with deadlines specified.

Guaranteed Scholarship Program

All applicants from a Canadian high school background who apply by March 1st are automatically considered for guaranteed entrance scholarships. No separate application is required. These scholarship offers are renewable (conditions apply) and will be made with the offer of admissions. All scholarship offers are reevaluated upon receipt of final high school results. Applicants from Canadian grade 12 high schools are guaranteed $1,000 per academic year with 80 to 84.9% average* *82 to 84.9% for applicants to Educational studies $2,000 per academic year with 85 to 89.9% average* $3,000 per academic year with average* of 90% and higher

Minimum Admissions Average

Students must have a minimum average of 70 per cent in order to be considered for admission. Entrance averages are higher in limited enrolment and competitive programs.

Application Deadline June 1, 2013 is the deadline for most programs, however students applying for first-year admission are strongly encouraged to submit their applications earlier.

IB Credit Information Students who are granted an IB diploma may be considered for admission, and may receive up to 3.0 transfer credits on the basis of higher-level subjects completed with a grade of five or better.

AP Credit Information If a student has completed Advanced Placement course with an examination grade of four, they may be eligible to receive a maximum of 2.0 Brock credits.

WHAT’S NEW

Construction is nearly complete on the Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex, a state-of-the-art facility where students and faculty will explore green science and health and wellness.

Work will soon begin on a new facility for the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. This downtown venue will showcase professional artists while providing superb facilities to foster the development of our artists at Brock.

BC Provincial Exam Policy:

Carleton does not require that students write provincial exams. We will use either the composite mark provided when the exam mark is combined with the class grade or the class grade alone, which ever advantages the student.

Last year more than 11,500 scholarships and bursaries totaling over $16.2 million were awarded to undergraduate students.

Entrance Scholarship Application Deadline:

High school students who are admitted to Carleton University with an admission average of 80 per cent or better will automatically be considered for a renewable Entrance Scholarship. No additional application is required. Entrance Scholarships are renewable over the first 4 years of an undergraduate degree with A- standing (10.0 annual GPA). If lost one year, scholarship may be regained at its original value with a return to A- standing.

Scholarships with Separate Deadlines:

Students with a 90% admission average and extracurricular activities are eligible for one of our Prestige Scholarships. Applications are due March 1. Other program-specific scholarships are available. carleton.ca/awards

WHAT’S NEW

The Bachelor of Arts program in Child Studies, which was originally developed specifically for graduates of Early Childhood Education (ECE), now has a direct-entry program for those without an ECE diploma. The deadline for application is March 1.

The name of the Bachelor of Arts program in Cognitive Science (Honours) has been changed to Bachelor of Cognitive Science (Honours) or BCogSc (Honours).

The Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) program now offers an Algorithms stream.

Varsity football will be returning to Carleton in 2013. Stadium upgrades and the construction of new football facilities will take place on campus in time for the kickoff to the 2013 season.

Concordia University prefers students to have a 70% average and above, however, based on space availability, students below this average may still be considered. • Centre for Clinical Research in Health (CCRH) in the Psychology Department: is devoted to the study of the psychosocial determinants of physical and mental health with particular attention to research on the causation, prevention, and treatment of physical and mental health problems.

• Centre for Microscopy at Concordia (CMAC): MAC promotes interdisciplinary research and state-of-the-art facilities to train undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows. Current research activities include: metabolic engineering of pharmaceuticals; molecular mechanisms of aging; learning and memory; and autism spectrum disorders to list but a few.

houses 566 students primarily in single bedrooms. O’Keefe House is a 33-student residence with double and triple occupancy rooms. There is a large communal kitchen onsite. Meal plans are mandatory for Pitman Hall and the ILC.

IB Credit Information StFX will offer up to 18 transfer credits for completing the IB diploma with a minimum overall score of 24 points and a minimum grade of 5, 6 or 7 in higher-level courses only. StFX may also grant advanced standing to students who have taken higher-level subjects with a score of 5, 6 or 7 but who did not complete the diploma program. AP Credit Information Applicants who have complete Advanced Placement courses with a score of 3 or higher are eligible to receive advanced standing.

English Proficiency Requirements

IELTS minimum score: 6.5 TOEFL minimum scores: 580 (paper-based), 236 (computer-based), 92 (internet-based). If a student completes the final two years of high school English with a 65% average (in both courses), they are exempt from writing an English proficiency test.

StFX President, Dr. Sean Riley, is among the newest appointments to the Order of Canada, being recognized for his contributions to StFX, as well as the community.

The Gerald Schwartz School of Business and Information Systems received two distinct national accreditations: The Co-op program, from the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education; and a five-year accreditation for our Business program (major and honours in Accounting) from CMA Canada.

Craig Kielburger (co-founder of Free the Children) was on campus in February to deliver the keynote address for our inaugural McKenna Leadership Centre Encouter – a two-day service learning workshop.

Reporting of Grades Students applying for early fall admission must self report their grade 11 grades and provide a list of grade 12 classes. Once midterm or first semester grade 12 finals become available, students must submit an official transcript for scholarship consideration.

Students applying by the March 1st deadline must submit a copy of their midterm grades or their first semester, grade 12 finals.

IB Credit Information To be eligible for admission, students who complete the full Diploma must receive a minimum of 26 points in addition to meeting the minimum admission requirements for their program. IB students who have completed Higher Level subjects with a result of 5, 6 or 7 may be eligible for university credit. We also offer a second year credit to Theory of Knowledge students who receive a C or better.

AP Credit Information Students may be eligible for university credit for AP courses in which a national exam result of 4 or 5 is achieved.

TOEFL of 90 on iBT (or 237 on the computer-based test, 580 on the paper-based-test), MELAB (81), or IELTS (6.5)

Guaranteed Scholarship Program - For September 2012 entry, current graduating high school students following a Canadian curriculum who had a minimum 85% final admission average in the required subjects received a $1,000 entrance scholarship.

- For September 2012 entry, those who had a minimum 90% final admission average in the required subjects received the $2,000 Come-to-Campus grant.

WHAT’S NEW

New program: Health Promotion. Students interested in the health and well-being of entire communities can study how

political, cultural, and economic conditions influence health. Students learn how to enable people and organizations to

improve health through education, marketing, policy, mediation, and advocacy. Note: Prospective students are advised that

offers of admission to Health Promotion will may be made only after the university's own quality assurance processes have

been completed and the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance has approved the program. Waterloo has approved

the program and we’re just waiting for Council approval.

Program and prerequisite changes

• Accounting and Financial Management now requires a minimum grade of at least 70% in each of 4U

Advanced Functions and 4U Calculus and Vectors.

• The Geography and Environmental Management program is now available only through our Faculty of

Environment. It was previously offered through the Faculty of Arts.

• Independent Studies now requires one year of university or two years of college studies for admission.

Home to the largest concentration of quantum researchers in the world, the new $160 million Mike &

Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum-Nano Centre is the most complex building constructed at Waterloo.

Researchers are working at the atomic scale and harnessing the quantum laws of nature to develop

powerful technologies that will transform information technology. The Centre will house the Institute for

Quantum Computing and Canada’s largest Nanotechnology Engineering program.

IB Credit Information

Grades can be sent electronically through OUAC however they may not arrive in time for consideration. Applicants are strongly encouraged to send grades by mail, e-mail to [email protected] or by fax to 519-884-0618 for conditional offers. All final transcripts must be sent as a hard copy directly from the issuing institution. Self-reported grades may also be used for conditional offers.

Transfer credits will be considered for all higher level courses completed with a minimum score of 5, for both diploma and certificate applicants, subject to applicability to the program offered.

AP Credit Information Credits are awarded on case-by-case basis, with a minimum grade of 4, up to a maximum of 3.0 credits.
