• UNIST is predominant scientific and teaching institution in the region which
includes 11 Faculties, 1 Academy of Arts and 4 University Departments. There
are about 20,000 students enrolled in the University's undergraduate, graduate
and post-graduate programmes. The focus of the research work carried out by
the University is on scientific areas with reference to disciplines characterized
by natural, cultural, historical, social, economic and other features of the region
as a part of the Croatian Adriatic and the Mediterranean region as a whole. This
involves the research and protection of art and construction heritage, philology,
field crops, oceanography and fishing, Adriatic botany and zoology, island and
coastal economy, Adriatic tourism, maritime law, nautical science, naval
architecture, chemical engineering, civil engineering, architecture, electrical
and mechanical engineering, social sciences and humanities, health sciences,
forensics, kinesiology etc.
2. What are the activities and experience of your organisation, which are relevant to
EU funded projects? (max 1000 characters with spaces)
The University of Split has expertise in IPA, TEMPUS, FP7, LLP, Erasmus,
Erasmus Mundus, Erasmus+, Horizon 2020, Interreg MED, EU (ESI) funds and
other EU co-financed projects. The projects involve various disciplines. During the
programming period 2007-2013, UNIST participated in approximately 35 EU
projects, and in the last 3 years it has been actively involved in more than 40
projects, whether as a partner or the coordinator. EU Projects Office of the UNIST
is responsible for informing, advising and supporting the applicants during the
application and implementation phase, as well as for the administrative and
financial monitoring and management of the EU projects in which the UNIST is
involved as a coordinator, partner or a third party.

4. Does your organization plan to apply for any EU funded projects in the next year?
(If so, please specify under which Programme, if you already know, or in which
field of activity)
• At the moment, we are waiting for the results for submitted Erasmus+
(different actions), Creative Europe, European Social Fund, European
Maritime and Fisheries Fund projects. The University of Split will apply
for some EU funded projects in the following year in accordance to internal
action plans. Since we are the University and have many professors and
experts working in different research and educational areas, the projects
usually involve different disciplines. Usually, there is a great interest in
Erasmus+ projects. Structural ERDF projects will also be submitted as
some of them are in mature preparatory phase.

5. What is the trainees’ ideal personality, qualifications and skills?
• A trainee should be fluent in English and have good computer skills;
motivated, responsible, thorough, willing to learn, communicative. It can be a
student in the social field like economics or law but also any other areas are
acceptable depending on her/his ambition to develop new skills.
6. Which working language is required?
• English, Croatian is an advantage.
7. Please give a rough description of the main daily tasks
• A trainee will get acquainted with the various activities of the EU Projects
Office and with the rules and procedures of applying, implementing and
monitoring the EU projects in Higher Education sector. He or she is expected
to assist with those activities, including scouting for financing opportunities,
writing memos, filling out the application and other forms for different types
of projects, helping with dissemination activities, exploring different EU
programmes, matching calls with current strategic orientation of the
University, etc.
8. How many trainees are you willing to host at the same time?
• 1 trainee.
9. What is your favourite length of the mobility period?
• Minimum three months to 12 months period.
10. What kind of logistical support are you able to provide? (Office desk, computer,
internet connection, printer, telephone, etc.) • Our Office is able to provide office desk, computer, internet connection, printer,
telephone and all required office supplies. Besides, the student is provided with
permanent mentoring from the Head of the Office, who follows and improves the
development of student’s skills and transfer of knowledge. Any kind of education

or short term training available during the period of stay is available for students
and students are encouraged to participate. Besides, international trainees are
included in the activities of students’ organisations dealing with international
students. They provide support to their social life and assist international students
and trainees in daily life.
11. Do you provide any economic support?
• Yes. We provide support to students for participation in available trainings and
education programmes we find beneficial to the trainees. Usually, we finance one
full course meal a day for a trainee (lunch or dinner) at any of the Students
restaurants within the University of Split and the Croatian language course.
12. Do you provide any linguistic support?
• Yes. There is a possibility to participate in a Croatian language course, free of
charge for a trainee, depending on a period of a traineeship. Linguistic assistance
within the office is permanent.
13. Where would the trainee(s) work from?
• The trainee(s) would work at the office in fully equipped and pleasant
environment.
14. Is there any possibility for the trainees to be hired after a successful traineeship
experience?
• There is a possibility to hire a trainee only in the case that we get the funding for
the project the trainee has been working on.
15. Would you be interested in being contacted for future traineeship projects?
